I'm sure the 'which fork' is a question which has been asked loads of times on this forum but heellpp!
I have a full on race 29er, and have bought a 26" SantaCruz Chameleon for general winter riding, thrashing around and taking on holiday to th'Alps.
Fork wise, I've always had short travel on my bikes as I've been purely 'lycra wearing XC' but of late I've started wearing baggies, using 2.35 tyres and my bars have got wide!!! (On my winter 26" not the 29er)
Thing is I dont have a clue what forks to go for on the new SantaCruz and it seems a bit of an expensive mine field.

I'd be grateful for your opinions,
Floss

A set of Pikes would probably be ideal if money's no object as its a really versatile frame......or a cheap set of Bombers.... Having just gone race 29er I miss the playful popping ride of my Cove Stiffee with 140mm Revs....older frame obviously but same sort of bike.

We have 130 mm Revs on ours. You may need a bit bigger for the Alps though

I'm trying to weigh up some travel adjust forks such as 120 for normal riding and extend them for downhills but it's really difficult to know what the travel range of forks is when they are advertised on line.

I have talas on mine and use both the 160mm and the 130mm setting. The bike pedals really well at 160mm but I use the 130mm on road (getting to the trails) and on longer climbs. If I could only choose one setting I would have 160mm as it seems to suit the bike better for what I enjoy using it for most.
