Looking at 100mm travel forks, namely RS SID Race or Magura Menja 100.
Anybody got experience of these, in particular relative stiffness and ease of service, plus anything else useful.
Cheers.
Menja will be heavier than SID - it's near the bottom of the Magura range.
Surely the Durin would be more in line with the SID? FWIW I've got Rebas on one bike & Magura Laurins on t'other - the dual air Rebas are more adjustable but despite that the Laurins still seem smoother over small bumps, and they tend to use more travel. Servicing is much of a muchness between the two so far (DIY).
Asking for a mate tbh - price wise he can get them for the same. Yes the menjas gives up 250g odd to the SID, but is it worth it for the stiffness?
Rockshox all the way
Rockshock SID are for sponsored riders who get their fork serviced every 50hrs. - read the warrenty/service manual. my my reconing this means service required every month.
Check out service costs from TFTuned.
Magura on the other hand are well made, and designed for long use between service. annual service is usual. and Magura UK are very reasonable service cost (£50 last time I did one)
Warranty and after sales by Magura are 1st rate.
I now ride 3 pairs Magura forks (Wotan, Menja, Durin) and 2 pairs Maverick SC32's... and won't touch Rockshocks after to many failed within 6months use for our XC team.
oh and in terms of stiffness and feel, then imo Magura double arch design is the stiffest out there. and yes they feel very good in use.
