I am thinking of going to forest of dean on Friday, but is it worth the 5 hours on the train to get there and back from Oxford, or should I go somewhere nearer and spend longer actually riding?
Cheers
1 hr and its all over, unless your spending the day on the downhill runs, probably not worth it, plus it will be rammed on friday,

ARE YOU BEING SERIOUS?
Actually pissing myself laughing here...
There's enough trails in the FOD to keep you interested for weeks and weeks, without having to ride the same thing twice... If you know where you're going!
You can get there a lot quicker from Oxford if you can drive by the way, the train journey is a painfully long one.
EDIT: Just seen some of your previous posts on other threads, so know you're taking the piss... Maybe a winking smiley perhaps? 😉
gaberin get the right guide and its worth driving double the distance
amt27 is talking out of his CaptainFlashHeart
did someone say guide 😉
I was being generous with the 1 hr, verderers can be done in less than half
Depends whether you are talking about Pedalabikeaway or the FOD in general. If its the latter you could spend a week here and still not ride all the trails. Your only problem is finding them.
You need a woknav
Yeah, unfortunately I'm 16 so can't drive till next year 🙁
There are trails all over them thar hills. You could spend weeks and not discover them all. Ride on if you hear banjos
Simply put, yes.
FOD is ace 🙂 I'd happily make the trip just for the verderers. Next time I go I must see if I can get someone to show me some of the other trails.
Not sure I'd trust two 2 1/2 hr train journeys on a Bank Holiday.
Just ride to the Ridgeway or Chilterns instead and have a day there?
XC or DH?
XC - With a knowledgeable local as a guide yes, otherwise no.
DH - If you do an uplift day then yes, if not... pfff debatable.
Yeah it could get pretty busy, and with 4/5 bikes (between us) maybe a bit much..
By train? Best part of an hour road ride on main roads from Gloucester to get to the trails, at least 45 minutes return ride. If you can get a connection to Lydney station then you'll only be 20 minutes or so ride from the trails on quieter roads.
I think Amt wants the trails to his self .Mind saying that the last 3 times i have been down there everybody is on Verderers or D/H tracks.Never saw a sole other than when i crossed the Verderers. No one over towards the Dowies etc only walkers and sheep.
saw Dowie for the first time in 18 years the other day, top fella
Had a race with him down Dowies few years back could not believe my mate was going so fast then looked around and it was Dowie. Then we had a rip over the one above the fire road i call son of the Dowies he got well away then crashed and hurt this shoulder.Next time i saw him he was strapped up.Saw him last year when he was redoing the 1st Dowies after felling.Good Guy.
...then crashed and hurt this shoulder.Next time i saw him he was strapped up.
That must have been the time he had his hair cut; made him a crap rider 😆 Legend has it he first made the trail on his motorbike then decided it was better for MTB 😉
I'll ask him tonight :D, depends if he's out on our Wednesday night ride from the Tufthorn, mind you he dont like the rain. Wanna see if he's got that new Trek Slash yet
All his strength was in his hair i see 🙄
