Laddo came home on Sunday with what looked like a really bent wheel, turns out it wasn't that bad but it's been for a true and is now back. Lad who did it told me it was probably the tyre and it was shagged. Swapped the tyre and still the same big wobble in one spot, although after inflating and deflating several times it seems to move.
27.5 using tubes.

What tyre is it. We have had a couple when the wheel has been bent that has damaged the tyre casing and had to bin the tyre.

Hr2 I've just put a different one on and it's presenting the same problem. They are a bastard to get on and I'm wondering if that is causing an issue?

Get plenty of soapy water on the bead and blow it up till it pops.
If the rim runs something true and the bead has popped on evenly then I would try a new tyre just to be sure.
Both of ours were Minions even when popped they were running wobbly.

Buy a tubeless tyre inflator, never have this problem again.

Really... don't mess around with soapy water or other "techniques" to get tyres that wont seat properly to seat. It avoids the frustration.

Soapy water and a compressor at home or in the camper has never failed us apart from when the tyre has been damaged. We have a spray bottle filled with a mixture at the side of the compressor. You would be surprised how many have come and used camper one on race days when all else has failed 😎

Hold on op, is the problem getting the tyre on or.... that there is a bump in the tyre(s) casings after you put it/them on??

Sounds like the lad hasn't trued the wheel properly if you have the same issue with 2 different tyres . Don't see how a tubeless inflator or compressor will really help in this case as you are running inner tubes . I would take the tyre off re-fit the wheel and spin it in the frame , if it isn't true you should be able to see it . If it is true then re-fit the tyre having lubricated the bead , then pump it up to 40psi and check whether the tyre is seated by looking at the mark that goes round the tyre and making sure it is sitting just proud of the rim all the way round . If it isn't then pump to 60 psi , leave for 10 minutes . Hopefully that will have seated it but if not you could try 80psi if you are feeling brave or if you can see where the bead hasn't seated put the wheel on the floor with the unseated bead nearest to you at the wheels low point and put your foot on the tyre while pushing the top of the wheel away from you , if this fails give up .

Mount the tyre at a different point in the rim.
Does the wobble/lump stay at same point on rim or same point on tyre?

It's really odd. The wheel is pretty true. Probably a couple of mm max so not a perfect true but ok. The tyre is seating properly, all beads popping in audibly and visibly, but it's just left the tyre physical leaning to one side in one spot. They are so ****ing tight to get on though. I'm wondering if I've damaged two tyres when levering them on. Is that a possibility?

Yes - I imagine you have distorted the tyre by wrenching it too hard sideways to get it on. 'Damaged' is a bit strong, though, the tyre will most likely be fine - just a bit irritating when you see it spinning. Doubt you'd notice it much when riding it.

What matt says, mark the rim where the wobble is, move the tyre 45 degrees or so, check where the wobble is now.

I had this on a Schwalbe gravel tyre a few weeks back, drove me mad figuring out the problem.

FWIW, we were always told that levers are for taking tyres off, not putting them on. Can't say I've always been able to stick to that, mind.
