anyone got one?
do they actually work or just fall off at the slightest provocation?
my mate in glasgow was at me panicing as his frame was falling apart when he was washing it.
it was the aforementioned patch falling off.
told him to glue it on with something strong and its been fine since - if you fit it correctly i dont see it being an issue - unless its fitted to a 456 ๐
I've got a focus road bike with the patch, stayed on fine over the past year.
Sounds a good idea, will you be marketing them?
FWIW, the one on my Cube and the one on my Blur work just fine.
It's something I'm looking at for additional armour on this -
Not a great secret we're working on a new Carbon 456 ๐
FWIW, Brant, going back a lot of years, we had aftermarket ones on our road bikes - don't recall any problems with them at all.
That said = MTB = mud = jet wash which could be a whole different ball game?
Had one on an S-Works Roubaix that worked fine. Was convinced it was going to peel off at some point but it didn't.
My Yeti 575 (the old style frame) has a stainless steel patch over part of the carbon swingarm. It doesn't look like a patch but I'm sure its just glued/bonded on as there is a small gap under it.
They are very noisy, and prone to falling off. The one on my carbon Nomad has been covered with self amalgamating tape to help with both things... Along with the rest of the chainstay.

In what way, mine's is quiet as a mouse.

The chain isn't supposed to be rubbing on it as you ride
Of course... But when the chain bounces and hits it, it sounds like a gun going off.
Pretty sure the only way the chain can hit mine is if it comes off the granny ring or gets sucked in.
Admittedly, if you only ride to shops and back, this may not be an issue...
If your chain's coming off enough to say the noise from the plate is an issue then I think you need to look at your drivetrain set up.
Maybe you need to look at your riding?
Its a known issue with Nomad C with 1x9 or 1x10 drivetrain and DH chainguides, threads on MTBR. Since a 456 Evo carbon will probably see similar setups and some abuse, thought best to mention.
I don't think I have ever had a mountain bike that hasn't had some degree of chainslap. Although the new plus mechs seem to maker it go away to the greater degree.
Or is this about some other type of chain damage patch?
