They're beneficial on every bike, imo.

The Ritchey one's are comfier than any other grips I've tried, weigh nothing, are cheap and don't slip.

Perfect.

Not tried the ESI's though.

I just put a set of ESIs on my hardtail about an hour ago, so haven't used in anger but they do feel good. Seem overpriced for a bit of silicone foam mind... probably cost about £1 to make.

Ye they both seem just as popular but the ritchey are half the price.

Like my ESIs Got them on 2 bikes. Interesting how they mature and soften.

I resent the cost, but it didn't stop me buying a second pair.

Those who have the ESI, are you going for the normal or the thinner ones? Cheers.

Another vote for ESI - I use the Extra Chunky ones, biggish paws.

I am surprised schmiken hasnt been here yet.

He is one of two I know using ESI grips and he raves about them, the other is my housemate and he loves them as well. No throttling, loads of grip and the chunky ones look like they get rid of loads of trail buzz.

I have been pleasantly surprised by ESI's - but I do want to try the fatter ones as they are not quite big enough in normal flava.
They are grippy no matter what the weather, and do seem to even out a lot of minor vibrations.
They do leave red stains on gloves and hands when you sweat / rains...

ESI Chunky on rigid and full suss. Recently realised I haven't had numb hands since I started using them. Excellent.

Didn't get on with the Ritchey ones that are shaped with a bulge bit. Seemed too chunky and didn't fit with the shifters well. With shifters in the right place for thumb, it felt like fingers were wedged in.

That said, on a touring flat bar bike I'd consider uniform profile foam grips. On techy singletrack, much prefer something grippier.

ESI grips are great until the first crash. Then you just have some scraps of material flapping around the ends of your bars...

I'm clearly doing it worng; after having tried giving ESI grips a go for a couple of months I'm going back to ODI Yetis...

I have two mares that use them, one has the standard and the other the chunky. They both love them but The one with the chunky says he will go extra chunky next time.

I need new grips and bars so I think I will give the chunky ones a go.

They do seem quite fragile tho, not sure how well that will go down with the carbon bars I plan to buy.

Bear with me, I've been busy!

OP - ESI chunky are fantastic. Comfy, light, eliminate some trail buzz. Got them on the hardtail and the rigid. Wouldn't ride anything but now. Also come in a range of colours!

I normally have big thick grips (I get more arm pump with thinner ones), in particular the Excel Superstar ones. Can anyone compare the 2? I worry that they'd just compress back to bar diameter with squidgy bits between my fingers?

A lot of 1980s used foam grips as there was no suspension. Grab-on grips were popular and are still made.
