[Closed] Floor covering for under bikes in a rented house

Just fitting out an unfurnished house and the bikes are probably getting the best bit to themselves. Just trying to decide what to put down as a carpet protector, mostly just for mud etc as it's bike storage only, won't have any furniture etc on it. About 2m by 1.5m. The carpet's a relatively coarse rental number, not too soft.

I'm not a big fan of the interlocking foam tiles, they always seem to walk about, so I was thinking of just getting a roll of 5mm garage floor mat... Not sure how that'll fare on top of carpet though. Some people suggest using laminate tiles? I'd like for it not to be too thick overall.

Any other better suggestions?

Definitely some thin rubber matting with a lip to just catch any water, can pick them up cheap and means after a light dry you don’t worry about a puddle after an hour.

We've something like this at the back door - ours is 2m across. It's great for catching everything and big enough to put the bike stand on and work on.

It's been hosed a few times in the summer - and despite regular vacuum, it's amazing what it traps.

A big tarp so you can have it double-ply. Turn corners and edges up so any moisture doesn't run away and it'll evaporate on the tarp. It can be brushed clean and will save the flooring getting any seepage.

I'd probably just get a cheap bit of lino from b&q.

Tarp for a couple of quid from B&Q and a large carpet offcut over it from freecycle.
Water/oil proof and you won't tear it

I use an industrial rug in the van, rubber based with a carpet on top, like the kind ye see when going into a shop or similar. Really good, absobs the wet, just chuck it out on the lie when it's got soaked.

Like these, but mine came from, ahem coughworkcough.

Felt backed carpet offcuts and a couple of magic mats under the tyres.
Or a few runner size magic mats.

This - it costs them to take them to the tip these days so they're normally happy to give you as much as you want.

Tarp works fine as a budget option, if it's low-traffic and you have things around the edges of the area that you can stuff it under to hold it in place.

I've got a motorcycle pit mat from 24mx or xlmoto under my actual motorcycle and I since bought a couple more that I use in the workshop to stand on, on the cold concrete floor and to protect work on my workbench (which conveniently is exactly the same size as the mats.
About £27

They're brilliant. Nice and quality feeling, cheap compared to industrial floor mats, 1x2 metres and they absorb oil spills or water or the blood of your victims

A horse bed matt is heavy duty and can cut to fit. I used to have one in my van

Yup, this. You'll get a massive piece for about fifteen quid.
