I have a 7 YO Float RL shock that came with my 2003 Spesh Enduro.
Its never been fully serviced since new.
I've done the air can servicing fairly regularly and i've got the seal and bushing kit to do before winter. Im happy with its performance also.
Whenever i've done the aircan service its been spotless inside and there is no real filth in there. It still locks out properly and the rebound damping still works fine and there is no visible wear in the main air shaft.
So the question is this, will i gain anything by sending it to mojo for a full service? I know there is a nitrogen charge in there, does this escape over time? Or am i better just doing what i've done so far and save the money for something else?
THIA
Anyone?
How does it feel when you ride it?
As I said im happy with its performance currently. So I guess the answer is leave it alone!
If it's working fine, leave it. It's gonna cost £89 + postage to get mojo to service it, and leave it feeling pretty much the same, so why bother. If it goes wrong, think of it as though you've saved £89 by not servicing it, for every year you've had it. That leaves you with £623 saved to spend on a new shock/frame if it dies! 😀
lol! Great idea, but i've not actually been putting the £89 to one side oddly!
You've all kinda told me what i already knew. Does beg the question why some people send their shocks away every year if it doesnt need doing!
funny thing is how much do folk use there bikes a year not much realy yet still send there shock off
And fit and forget on there cars till it fails the mot 😕
my thoughts are " if it ain't broke do not fix it"
But most cars dont have user serviceable shocks.
Agreed about the ain't broke, dont fix it comment though!

True but most shocks on cars work without touching for a very long time and in the grand scheme of things we are only riding push bikes not moto gp bikes
BTW can you do the nitrogen charge to your damper??
shame your not closer to someone who could do it for you.
for the cost of a service kit (£15 i think check mojo's www site) and a beer someone local could do it in 10 mins..
would be happy to help and do it for you if you local.
only time u need a "full" service is if you have issues. would recommend an air can service kit from mojo and do it yourself personally.
Fozzy, did you read my original post at all?
I did say I have done the aircan service regularly and have a bushing and seal service kit to fit before the winter.
I was asking specifically about the major damping service side of things. But thanks for the offer anyway!
sorry, i scanned it.
