I really cant get mine to bottom out.
I have removed the piston and cut 2cm off the rod. It's a bit better as I have way less ramp up, but I still can't get the last 2 cm of travel no matter how hard I try. I compressed the fork with no air inside and can get whole travel out of it.
any pointers?

Cheers

Yeah, replace them with Rockshox!!

I thought Fox made the 'best forks ever'?

😉

LOL
Well I would replace them with RS if RS could make fork able to handle more than 6 month of use 😉
I think I'll just sell it and buy a van instead I have no problem with mine 😀 it works just great... I'll see if I can dig something out for the float.

So you can get full travel with no air in?

Yes
I might try to remove some oil on the damper side too just to see if it works.

I have same issue, I'm now running them with 60 psi in, I weight 12 stone with kit, and I'm getting all but 1cm travel on a hard xc ride. Seems about right, althought the not getting all the travel thing is a pet hate - marzocchi's pretty bad for this too I have some 55's and some Z1 sl's and don't get all the travel out of those either.

Generally most folks ride in wet muddy forest ;), round here it's more like dry very rocky trail 😉

pretty sure you'll only get full travel with no air. It doesn't really worry me- they work well enough that I'm not concerned whether I'm getting 120, 130 or 140 - they're only numbers after all, it's the control that matters.

Just out of interest Juan, how to RS forks fail in dry rocky conditions?

As you say, in a wet muddy world they seem to last very well.

p.s. if you want full travel, get a coil fork (although older Marz air forks I've had have got full travel no problem).

Funnily enough I hired a Demo bike at Glentress yesterday that had Float 32's on the front. 2009 models apparently

I came away thinking why all the fuss about Fox forks? My 2.5 year old air Pikes are much better forks IMO. I am off to the states in a few weeks time and was sure that a set of Fox Floats would be coming back in the suitcase. Pretty sure that will not be the case now

Well the RS that was fitted on the LBS owner's meta 6 lasted 6 month before developing and awful lot of play. And that's not on isolated case.
I do agree about both of your last point.

I didn't know you were ment to be hitting full travel... so is bottoming out the fork a good thing? I always assumed it wasn't...

Personally, I wouldn't worry about getting that last 10mm of travel, as long as the sag and rebound is set correctly, that's all that matters.

mine [2010 RLC FIT's] are fantastic, but don't offer the full stroke , leaving ~1cm of unused top-out travel.
it's not as important as damping and control where they are simply the best available ime.

Drop all of the air out and then see if you can bottom the fork. If you can't then there's too much oil in the damper....at least that was the issue with mine.
