gonna be fitting a new set of bearings in a pitch frame soon
should they be fitted with any 'product' eg grease/loctite blue or should it the friction fit be left dry?
A little bit of grease will help them go in and should make them easier to get out again when the time comes
I found swearing quite helpful as I floundered getting them seated straight...
I don't think grease makes any difference to press-fit parts.
A smear of anti seize never hurts
How difficult is this job on a scale of 1-10? I need to do mine but I'm not sure if I have the chops.
With the right tools,5.Without,9.5.
Ta. What are the right tools?
grum, found this useful.
so you need a good vice with soft/protected jaws, and a couple of the old bearings
Superstar do some quite neat bearing tools.
Anybody used the superstar bearing tools?
Any good?
Would that be the same process/bits as doing a Stumpjumper FSR? Mine is creaking and developed a bit of play so need to replace them but cant decide whether to LBS it or try myself?
I don't know what the new frames are like but the bearings in the seat/chain stay joint were an absolute pain to change on the old 2004 enduro. There were 2 small bearings per side separated by a circlip. You needed something to get on the opposite bearing to drift it out. I think I gave up in the end.
