[Closed] Fitting braided hoses to Shimano (XTR M985) brakes, how?

I'm trying to fit some braided hoses to my XTR M985s. The fittings are: M8 bolt / Banjo. I'm using a braided hose from DiscoBrakes with the appropriate fittings - and the banjo end works all okay, but I'm having issues with the olive end.

(1) The DiscoBrakes olive / hose insert supplied seems too big to fit inside the XTR brake lever (it leaks oil).. but
(2) it looks like the official Shimano olive would be too small to actually fit over the DiscoBrakes braided hose.. (or any other thick braided hose for that matter) ๐Ÿ˜

Any clues on how to overcome this?

Just a quick question - why did you want to fit braided hoses to new XTR brakes? Is the lever feel with the standard BH90 hoses not firm? I thought the smaller internal bore diameter would increase firmness?

I've had Goodridge braided hoses on Shimano XTR M975 brakes, and they fitted fine - the olive diameter is the same....

HAve you torqued them up enough?

Ha..! ๐Ÿ™‚ - yes that's exactly the point made by the chap in my LBS - 'why d'you wanna fit braided hoses?'

(The guy in the LBS was of the opinion that is would be impossible to fit braided lines to M985s too - as 'pattern' fitments had not been produced for M985s yet by the likes of Goodridge et al. ๐Ÿ˜• )

...well. It may just be the bleed (I thought they came pre-bled?), but the standard plastic hoses seem to offer a fairly lame 'spongy' feel to these brakes. Other brake on my other bikes have braided hoses and feel much more 'punchy'.

I also much prefer the look of braided lines 8)

Can I ask - with the Goodridge braided hoses - did you use the Shimano olive, or a Goodridge one? And if it was a Goodridge one - was this a specific Shimano fit?

I *think* I've torqued them up enough, but not being *entirely* sure if I'm using the right fittings, it's a bit of a worry that I might damage things irrevocably if I give it too much welly.. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Goodridge do make parts that allow you to fit them to the 2012 shimano brakes, I think it's a mix of bits though so you will have to ask them.

Fitting braided hoses is actually a good idea with the shimanos as the standard lines and fittings have a habit of leaking.

It can definaately be done, google is your friend. Look for posts pertaining to 2012 SLX/XT/XTR brakes with goodridge. It might have been the 107 kit but I'm not sure.
