Hi there!
I'm hoping it’s not too bad a form to come on and ask a question straight away.
I’m wondering, have any of you guys fitted a Superstar Plasma chain device to their Orange Five. If so, what the hell did you do to get it to work?
I’ve been searching extensively to find someone with the same problem. There’s a few threads on here discussing fitting the Plasma, but nothing that was able to give me the answer I needed.
We can’t see a way of getting it to fit, at all. Basically, the only way we can get the chain in line with the guides is to keep using the drive side 2.5mm BB spacer. Of course by using this spacer, the left crank now won’t fit because the crank shaft doesn’t go through far enough. If we take the spacer away, the left crank fits, but now the chain is out of line with the guides, line rubbing tightly up against the inside.
Below is a picture of the adapter plate (Orange Five is old ISCG). It’s difficult to photograph, but you can see that there’s a 1.5mm gap in between the plate and the BB shell. Can this possibly be correct?
In my head , the only way I can see this possibly working, is to mill down the adapter plate by 1.5mm on the side that attaches to the bike. This will have the effect of moving the back plate and guides by 1.5mm in towards the bike, thus giving a little more clearance for the chain. Then, space back out the BB (drive side) by 1.5mm to retain the working position of the crank.
Even if this did help, I don’t think 1.5mm is enough to get the chain in line perfectly with the cog of the chain device.
Am I totally missing something here?
Would really appreciate any thoughts or feedback before I resort to just buying a different brand.
Big thanks in advance. Again apologies for the poor form of jumping on and asking for help straight away.
Niall
firstly, did you buy the iscg old version?
if you did there should be no need to use the BB adapter plate as this is used on frames that have no iscg tabs.
iscg 05 has a different bolt pattern and you won't get the old version to fit, also because the frame has iscg tabs the BB adapter won't fit as per your photo, due to the extra material used to create the threads.
simple fix is to sell and buy the correct version, or if it is the correct version ie iscg old then discard the BB adapter (bit in the photo) and mount the device direct to the frame.
Hope that makes sense
As above, if you bought the correct version for your ISCG then you don't need the part that you've photographed - that's for BB mounting the device if you don't have ISCG tabs.
I'm speechless. What an idiot. I can't believe I hadn't even considered not using that part. I just assumed that because it came with it, it was somehow necessary.
My joy at getting it sorted exceeds my feelings of stupidity though. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer guys, really appreciate it.
