Anyone got any pics/advice on how they have done this?
Think I can work it out for the rear but I'm not sure how it will work with the cheapo suspension forks on there? Or should I just buy some cheap rigid forks with the mounts?
old man mountain do suspension fork front racks - use those.
I'd be tempted to go with some cheap rigids myself, unless it's just for occasional use.
Sorry should have said at this point I am only thinking of a rack for the back, but proper guards for both. Being able to at some point in the future use a front rack is probably no bad thing though.
Tubus do a front rack for sus forks which I use - it is very good and keeps the luggage as suspended weight. Expensive but good.
Tubus also do various fittings for attaching a rack to a bike without mounting lugs that appear to be much stronger than the usual P clips.

TJ might know more than me, but full mudguards are usually secured to the fork crown. I doubt you'd fit them to bouncy forks because of the bridge being in the way....
Are there any that will fit suspension forks TJ? 🙂
most people use the motor-cross type guards that plug into the steerer tube if they want a front guard other than a crud catcher.
cheap rigid sounds good - it'll be lighter than a sus fork you probably don't need anyway...
Thanks peeps - yeah I should probably ALSO have pointed out that I am looking to do this in reasonably cheap and cheerful fashion - it's for my gf's fairly tatty old mtb that she commutes on with slick tyres.
I guess I could just use the moto x style ones but I thought fitted ones would probably work a lot better.

Oh yes, you better believe it! Waaaaay better!
Don't see what the issue is with using a normal mudguard. A p clip on each side at the bottom of the lower for the mudguard strut to screw on to and then use zip ties or another P clip around the bridge, with the mudguard running under the bridge. Job done!
Well one issue is getting p clips big enough to go round a suspension fork - assuming the measurement is diameter on these? The fork diameter would seem to be about 30mm
Lots of cheaper/"trekking" suspension forks have a whole in the bridge for a mudguard (oh - and the lower mounting points too.)
