Back in 2009 my ickle girl was born and what with one thing and another I started to get out in the hills less and less and tend to stick with either the road or fixed bike. Then just as my boys were born in 2010 some scrote nicked my MTB. I was kind of upset as I'd had the frame from the early 90's and she was a good ol girl....but there were no disk brake mounts, geometry wasn't great for 110mm forks and lots of the kit was getting a bit worn and needed replacing...i.e. a few sheckles to lay out....I was sort of close to going for a new steed...but now I had to.
Then the reality of having 3 young'uns running around made me realise that any descent off road rides would have to wait, so the idea of getting a new MTB went on the back burner...then financial crisis in Greece kicked in and we decided to look at moving somewhere else...fast forward a few months and we're now based just outside Zurich....a few tense months trying to find work and then everything has come together, start new job next week. Anyways, I have a week before I start and the kids are now in play school so I shot out last week and bought new bikes for the Mrs and I.
She's what I would call old school, but being as I've a few years under the belt in the world of bikes I like to stick with what I know.
Anyways, just spend the last couple of hours in the woods and hills literally just above my new house. First off road ride in about 3 years and I'm grinning from ear to ear.
I can see the trail fairies have been busy and I've found a real couple of sweet tracks made by the loggers which are fantastic sweeping single tracks.
Sorry for video quality but I tucked my phone into the strap of my ruck sack..needless to say it fell out...and sorry for it being lop sided, I don't have any video editing software on this laptop. But you get an idea of my local trails....I've only explored one little bit and still managed to get 18km of riding in.
Awful video, but fantastic post ๐

The OP is based near Zurich, about 3 hours away from Lake Geneva.
@growlinglad - very jealous mate, you are in a fabulous outdoor playground as you well know. Aside from everything right on your doorstep and around the lake you have bike parks and Alpine stuff in the resorts of Graubunden (Laax, Lenzerheide, Davos etc).

We've only been here since end of June and things are just settling down now so it's all a bit of an exploration at the moment.
My new boss is a mountain biker so hopefully he'll be able to give me some tips on where to head...but just going by today...man..can't believe how much good riding (road and mtb) is right on my door step...I'm a very happy bunny!!
The lake would be a great place for your kids to learn to sail for example.
My Swiss mate (based in Nyon) has a 15yr old trek HT with early Rockshox, cantelever brakes etc. Retro is in ...
