Been meaning/wanting to get out for a ride in Calderdale for a while now, and finally going this weekend. From what i've read on here, it tends to be very up and down, an quite technical in places? I normally ride in the lakes, how does it compare? What should i expect etc?

Yep, lots of ups and downs in Calderdale. Not as big as the lakes, but steep.
You've fitted new brake pads, yes? Calderdale eats them.

My organic pads lasted five months. I doubt you'll go through a set of pads with current conditions.

Its lovely at the moment. Pad eating rides are reserved for the depths of winter around here but you've got to be mental and go mud plugging up around Limers Gate etc for that to happen.

Hills tend to be steep and short(ish) and the riding can be as tame or as technical as you want it to be with everything inbetween. Any route plans yet / what kind of length ride do you want to do?

I did 22 miles from Ogden Water, over to Hebden for lunch and then some little extra bits before heading back last weekend and it was a belter. Completely knackering but a belter...

It's great fun good technical stuff with plenty of steep bit and tight turns.
