So I have the first 3 weeks of September to head out to the Alps (only seen when flying over!) and I am lost as to which route. Aside from a couple of nights I want to camp rather than stay in huts and I am planning on taking my 29er with rigid Niner forks, so not looking for sweeping technical single track as loaded up I find that a bit too hairy.
So far I have considered the Albrecht route (7 days), but difficult logistics wise regarding end point and flights back to London.
Swiss route #1 looks interesting. Fly to Zurich and then out from Geneva Swiss Route #1
I suspect there are many others, but when I search for bikepacking routes across the Alps I don't find a great deal and as I have never been I'm at a loss.
Any recommendations or tips that might help me formulate a plan would be appreciated.
I am bikepacking part of the GR5, from Modane to Nice, in September.
I expect some of the trails to be quite technical, I am taking a short travel full suss.
That Swiss trail #1 will probably have steep tech in it too, the Swiss tend to undersell the difficulty of their trails.
If you Google chemins du soleil vtt you will find a good waymarked trail which should be a bit less technical.
