There must be something that is very similar that costs a few quid instead of £27. Any weak glues that would work or mechanics stuff?

I was thinking none bike related. Like getting normal suspension oil in Halfords instead of the Bike suspension oil.
Just buy the 50g tube, it lasts ages especially as you won't be disturbing it all the time on an uppy downy post.
It is still expensive for what is probably waterproof weak glue or a water proof medium with a bit of friction in it. I was thinking some rubber solution or some other kind of not too sticky stuff to get a bit of increased friction.
