[Closed] Fingers cramping/locking

Lately, after long, rough descents I've been experiencing cramping in my little finger and the one next to it on both hands. They lock into a claw shape and it hurts! Not enough to stop riding but enough to feel that something isn't right. The pain usually goes fairly quickly once I let go of the bars.

Any suggestions as to what may be causing this and any solutions? Nothing has changed with my setup so it's a bit random!

Try some stretching excercises for carpal tunnel syndrome it may help, ive suffered a little from it lately due to work etc and its helping.
It may not be this however but no harm trying.

Cheers, will try that - I spend most of my time typing at a computer too so it certainly could be related to that!

Maybe spend a little less time with Rosie Palm and her five lovely daughters? Or have a play around with your cockpit setup - it could be that the bars/grips are putting too much pressure on the outside of your hand. I used to get the same thing - changed to a bar with more backwards sweep - much better on long descents.

relax your hands - no need for a death grip on the bars

I tried this and my hands just got bounced off the bars, luckily I managed to get them back on ๐Ÿ˜† I've been getting this cramping thing on the past few rides I've been on, thinking it may just be because I'm not used to such long and rough descents.

Your holding the grips too hard imo.
Loosen your grip slightly and i bet it goes away.
Are you dragging your brakes too down these descents as that'll do it too

it's not fashionable, but try bigger/thicker grips.

your description of 'the claw' and the pain in your little fingers sounds very familiar, sunline logo (thick) grips worked for me.

I don't think that I death grip but I could be wrong there and nope no dragging of brakes! I use thick grips as it is too, I'll try riding with a looser grip and see if that helps. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Could try adjusting brake leaver angle? As in whether they're 90degrees level with your bars or pointing at more of an angle towards the floor etc?

I used to get cramp in the hands after hot and sweaty rides, using an electrolite replacement drink has solved it for me, may be worth trying.

Try bringing your brake levers in. I used to get cramp in my hands until i did this, not i'm fine for any Peak District descent.
