[#3070244]

Anyone know any short rides straight from Dolgellau, maybe using the Mawwdach trail and the north slopes of Cadair Idris - Looking for something for a couple of hours direct from a campsite in the town after a long drive up (so rules out Dyfi, Climachx etc).

Planning on doing Dyfi, Cadair Idris and maybe Mach 3 (or extended version up to Glaslyn) on our full days there.

cheers

Any good to you? I rode something there years ago which I think was similar to this:

I just got back from Bontddu near Dolgellau.
I rode the Pont Scethin loop from there.
You could ride down the Mawddach trail and over the toll bridge at Penmaenpool to do that. (Hell of a road climb to the start though, especially ss!), but it's worth it! A degree of walking will be involved on some of the climbs, but the descents are awesome. I rode it clockwise (as Bikefax or VG Guides) but can see the attraction of both directions. The views are spectacular!
Might be a bit longer than you want - I dunno. The main route is only about 18k, but much harder than that would hint at. I think it took me about 3 hrs from Bontddu and back, that's taking in a good number of photo stops.

Dolgellau - Cregennan Lakes - Cylce route 8 - Dysynni Valley
Return to Dolgellau either by heading east up past Tal-y-Llyn (half BW half road) OR head back west along valley then the A493

Thanks, Cregennan Lakes is what I was after - would you recommend riding the footpath alternatives in that area, especially as a descent.

Pont Scethin is a great ride, too far for what I was after, but one I enjoyed last year (clockwise)

cheers
