I've just sat through the rather painful remake of 'Assault on Precinct 13'
Following the film, i have sat for some time trying to think of at least one remake which was as good as the original....but failed
Considering the amount of remakes currently being churned out - this is a major concern!
Can anyone name a remake film better than the original??
Is there such a thing as a good remake?
The fly.
Scarface. The Thing. True Grit.
If you watch a remake you must have rated the original in which case it will probably not impress and if you watch something you think is shit then you will not watch the remake.willy wonka the mrs says
The Thomas Crown Affair
I am legend. Better than The Omega Man.
Casino Royal
Interesting
I never knew that Scarface was first made in 1932! However, i see that there is a 2nd remake coming out in 2014. Oh dear...
The Thing - i've not watched the remake because the original was ace and i gathered the 2011 version would be toss
True Grit - enjoyed the latest one, seen the original with my gran 25 years ago - don't remember it to well!
I never knew the Fly was a remake. I love that remake!
The Thomas Crown affair - Pierce Brosnan kind of upset me after he killed Bond for many-a-year. But if its good, i'll take a look!
I see that a remake of Total Recall is coming out next year with Colin Farrel playing Arnie's roll - its gonna end in tears!
Hang on - I've thought of one - Casino Royale!! I'll sleep better tonight!
Cape Fear.
The Champ.
Ocean's Eleven.
InterestingI never knew that Scarface was first made in 1932!
And based on this
The Thing - i've not watched the remake because the original was ace and i gathered the 2011 version would be toss
I'm guessing you don't know that the Thing is a remake of the 1951 file The Thing from Another World. The recent film was a prequel to the remake.
And you didn't know the Fly was a remake either? tut, and indeed tut.
For what it's worth I thought Assault on Precinct 13 wasn't bad. The original has a culty retro charm to it, like most John Carpenter films, but it's hardly a masterpiece.
A fistful of dollars and yojimbo
The magnificient seven and the seven samurai
Heat and la take down
Cape fear, has had two remakes if you count the simpsons episode with sideshow bob...which was back in the days of the simpsons was essential viewing ๐
The Lord of the Rings
Omar Little - MemberA fistful of dollars and yojimbo
The magnificient seven and the seven samurai
I didn't bother mentioning them as I would say they are "re imaginings" and anyway, as good as they are they are vastly inferior to the originals.
I've been well & truely tutted! ๐
The Departed? It's a remake of Infernal Affairs
and the Pacino version of Insomnia
3:10 to yuma
Nic Cage's version of the Wickerman. It might initially seem like the worst thing ever, but then you realise it features Nic Cage dressed as a bear punching people in the face and screaming about bees. Who needs Christopher Lee?
....

Heat is apparently a remake of LA Takedown
Oooh yeah Heat!
I preferred the Soderburgh remake of Solaris
I am full of dread about the remake of The Dam Busters. Even with the involvement of Peter Jackson, Stephen Fry and Les Munro.
Andy
Snow white
Mutiny on the Bounty.
Oliver Twist.
Does Batman Begins count? It's awesome on many levels, not least of which that some street urchin in deepest darkest Himalaya is wearing a 1990 Sheffield United top.

Not really a re-make as such, more of what they call a 'reboot' these days, otherwise you could include Star Trek, Spiderman & potentially the next Transformers movie.
I quite enjoyed the Fright Night remake....
Not sure how I feel about the Total Recall remake but it does look good from the trailer, however given they're also making Robocop I can't see quite how they can improve on the original's satire.
I am legend. Better than The Omega Man.
The Omega Man (1971) was a remake of The Last Man on Earth (1964)
How about:
The Magnificent Seven (1960) which is a remake of Seven Samurai (1954)

I'll go with Meet Joe Black then. Although I'll admit the bits of Death Takes A Holiday I've seen were only snippets based on one of my old uni housemate's projects.
The Thing - i've not watched the remake because the original was ace and i gathered the 2011 version would be toss
The 2011 version isn't a remake - it's a prequel; the original starts off where this one ends!
The American 2010 'Let Me In' is a remake of the Swedish 2008 film 'Let The Right One In' and is very, very good - in my opinion, of course. In the same vein I reluctantly admit that last years 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' is possibly better than the 2009 original...
I guessing that while people are observing that The Magnificent Seven and A Fistful of Dollars are indeed good remakes (American-isations) of Akira Kurosawa films, they're not also suggesting that they are therefore better right?
I mean that would be just foolish wouldn't it?
Heat is indeed a remake of LA Takedown and was made by the same guy - Michael Mann who directed both films. I think one of the original cast from LA Takedown was also in Heat, but I can't remember which one.

The Magnificent Seven (1960) which is a remake of Seven Samurai (1954)

You shut your heathen mouths.
(I do disagree sirs)
The Omega Man (1971) was a remake of The Last Man on Earth (1964)
Ok, so I am Legend is a remake of a remake. Still better than the Omega Man ๐
A Robocop remake???? "I won't be buying that for a dollar!!"
The Italian job.

Damn, almost kept a straight face....
Now, I reckon that this would be the ultimate remake
