Fast rolling rubber for the Top Fuel

Looking for some fairly fast rolling tyres which are not super heavy for the Top Fuel.

Ideally with enough grip for light trail riding too.

Was thinking of a Barzo/Mezcal combo. But open to suggestions. What would the Maxxis etc equivalent?

Fast when dry or fast when wet?

Sorry should have said. Mostly dry but won’t kill me if it rains!

This thread thats just dropped off the front page may help:

Lighter tyres for 29er Hardtail - Singletrack World Magazine

Looking for similar myself but more trail friendly as I fear the Rekon Race I have front & rear may result in pain soon....thinking maybe Forekaster front & Ardent Race rear. Depends on how XC or trail biased you want them

I run Specialized Fast Trak f&r, T7 front/T5 rear. No complaints so far.

Curious what sizes people go for in the Barzo/Mezcal combo, since there's loads to choose from.

I've actually just bought some. Been using Conti Race King ProTection for the past couple of years, which I've been very happy with, I just couldn't bring myself to spend £100 to replace them.

Wolfpack Cross/speed looks like another option.

Anyone running XR4/XR3 combo? Think I might need something with a bit of grip up front to make up for my lack of skill!

Seen a new set of Barzo/Mezcal 2.35s for sale so it will probably be them or the Bonty combo.

I use Mezcals front and rear on my Scandal and a Barzo when I need or want more grip. They are fast. I used fast tracks previously and these seem faster.

I usually find the classic Racing Ralph rear and Rocket Ron front does the trick in 2.25 flavour but have experimented with various Maxxis on the back as well eg :Icon or Aspen 2.25 with great success as well
My current 'Downcountry'FS build is running Schwalbe Hans Damp 2.35 front and Maxxis Aspen rear 2.25! Just what I had lying around!
I really fancy Wicked Will 2.4 front Super race and Racing Ralph 2.35 rear Super race both in skinwall when they are both in stock though!
Thanks,
Max.

I've currently got a barzo on the rear and xr3 on the front of my Topfuel. Works pretty well in all conditions.

I use this combo on my Spur. Nice and light with plenty of grip in the front. Xr3 doesn't like mud particularly but should be fine for the summer if it ever arrives.

Got barzo-mezcals on my procaliber. Mezcals are great except in really greasy stuff. They break away predictably though....exactly the same time you touch the brake 😂
Every other condition they are gone and fast rolling

I’ve had XR4/XR3 on my Cotic before I sold that and they made for a great fast set up. Decent grip from them and surprisingly good in the wet as well, I thought the XR3 would be death but is VERY capable.

I’ve not got a Barzo/Mezcal set up on the Supercaliber. VERY fast combo with some great grip in dry to a bit damp conditions but I find the rear braking traction a little lacking, although that could be due to the 160mm rotor on a single top calliper.

+1 Mezcals front and rear on mine as soon as I possibly can, surprisingly ok in the wet and surprise mud in my experience.

Another vote for XR4/XR3 combo. Also like my Wolfpack race, fast rolling, light and surprisingly grippy.

I'm on my 2nd pair of Barzos for my 27.5 Anthem as of yesterday, love them. 2.25 front & back.
Used to run Bonty XR2s 2.2 on the 26ins bike but couldn't find any last time I looked.
