Fancy something new, My giro Xen, while functional doesnt look great (seems to stickout on my head like a mushroom from the front) and is 5 or 6 years old.

What helmet to make me look RAD TO THE POWER OF SICK?

Quite like the look of the POC Trabecs but not at £150!! Any piss pot lids with decent ventilation? Fancy something that doesnt look as XC as the Xen (even though thats what I mainly do), but somewhere in between the Zen and a pisspot.

Urge Enduromatic! I love mine, every other helmet makes me look like a giant mushroom but the Urge seems to fit quite well.

Uvex XP100: Low-profile, good rear coverage (trail-like) design, easy-peasy adjustment, well-vented, amazingly-light (260 grammes)and reasonably priced (£55 for mine).

+ 1 for the Giro feature.

Almost as "California Highway Patrol" as the Enduromatic, but very light, and not too hot at all.

I'm saving for a sixsixone that I saw in WightMountain. Very pretty and really good coverage. Not that expensive, (~£60) but I've had my rear wheel rebuilt with a Hope hub, so the bike fund is a little depleted.

They also had an insanely cheap Scott (I think it was forty pounds) that looks like it should be in the hundreds. It's got fly mesh, good rear coverage and a funky adjustment system. It was apparently the most stolen item at some show a few months ago, because it looked like a top of the range lid. I can't find it on the internet though.

Fox Striker is a pretty conventional helmet, but very light, good coverage... Extremely impressed with mine.

I've not tried an Enduromatic, but they look great and my downomatic is a fantastic bit of kit. Light, comfy, and so well vented.

Another +1 for UVEX. Best-fitting helmet I've owned.

I was in the same boat and went for the Scott Karma (£30) down from £80 from Start Cycles and have found it to be excellent. Fits really well and the adjustment system is spot on. Have a look they have numerous helmets at more than half price ok they are older models but still really good.

Go to a shop and try a load on? Fit is probably most important.

Just got a Giro Feature and it's a lot narrower externally than my old Giro helmet FWIW.

Another vote for the Feature. Giro fit, Giro quality and RAD TO THE POWER OF SICK *ahem*

Enduromatic also nice if you can get it to fit remember there's no retention system it either fits or it doesn't

Just got an Urge enduromatic. I was waiting for the all-M but I'm off to the alps and wanted more protection. It gives WAY more head coverage than a normal lid, and is very light. It comes with variable thickness pads for fit adjustment as it is a tight fitting system, not a shell and cage system. I really like it, and it is easy to fit my light and headcam to. Mine was reduced to £50 on CRC. It is the design with balloon graphics, but I have covered those in black heli tape, and it looks great too.

Check out the Kali Chakra. I was a confirmed Giro wearer, tried one of these and it's awesome. Good fit, good coverage and very good price. Not mushroomy either.

Rocketman - that's the one! The pink lining matches my grips anyway!! I couldn't bring myself to pay another £15 for the other one whose graphics I didn't like anyway. A bit of black heli tape and it's all black!! Shape / fit exactly the same.

Urge Endur-o-Matic

Even if it does sound like it's been invented by Wallace & Gromit
