A Bike Guide is required to join a UK cruise company.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the mountain bike programme within the Destination Services team by: providing and promoting a mountain bike programme which caters for all customers and incorporating a wide variety of guided rides and off road coaching. Create and continuously develop new exciting guided routes to lead, and compile a selection of route cards to assist in the creation of online sales content.
Other responsibilities include, carrying out all maintenance required to keep the bike fleet (circa 40 bikes including e-bikes) fully operational throughout the season. Take personal responsibility for the maintenance, repair and security of all company equipment. You will also have to ensure bike supplies are well stocked and place orders as and when required and in line with operational guidance, and ensure that instruction and health and safety are to the highest standard and take ownership of appropriate risk assessments.
The ideal candidate will have previous customer service experience with a diverse range of customer profiles, have experience of mountain bike guiding off road and knowledge of mountain bike maintenance and repair. They should also, have the ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds including both customers and staff, and the ability to build relationships quickly due to the seasonal nature of the role.
STCW Certification and valid seafarer's medical will be required.

I may be guilty of applying stereotypes, but I reckon your average cruise goer would be an awkward customer on a guided ride. You would have to carry their heavily laden wicker hamper and their folding deck chairs strapped to your back pack.

Yeah what I picture as your typical cruise customer is the killer there. For Mtb guiding swap leading a line of overweight elderlies on a cycle tour to the nearest tat shop.

Also, I too think that this is less 'MTB guide' and more 'leading doddering cruise-goers round a sightseeing trip of a coastal town at a leisurely pace'

Which means you'll need to be wearing mickey mouse ears at all times, and dealing with the sort of people who enjoy being trapped in a floating Disneyland for a week.

Based in Spain so you'll most likely be leading em up and down the fire roads of the Sierra Nevada. Though just noticed that ad dates from 2016 but uses exactly the same words as Binners' apparently recent link.

I knew someone that did that. The guiding was a bit of a pain, but they got sent to the locations in advance to recce the routes, which was great 🙂
@alex I get seasick and would rather eat my own toenails than go on a cruise ship! I'll need a freelancer.
(Also Cruise ships = getting into a moving/rocking enclosed space from which you cannot leave and sharing air and buffets with people who are guaranteed to have norovirus. Such is my world view)

I could probably suffer for a week or two if someone was paying me. And if I didn't need to be polite to the punters. Or do any maintenance (because I'm only here for a fortnight, and honestly, how much maintenance do you need to do when you potter around on wide, easy racks?). I had an interview for a similar sort of role but land-based and basically the pay was "you get free accommodation and most of your food but you're in a really lovely part of the world"

With newbies? Shitloads. Can guarantee that none of them will know how to change gear, brake effectively, unweight the bike over obstacles etc and that at the end of every ride there'll be broken spokes, worn out brake pads, knackered chains and rear mechs...

My post was clearly tongue in cheek, but I will add to it..
I once went on a cruise (and thoroughly enjoyed myself, despite expecting to hate it.) One of the trips I took was quad biking across the Egyptian desert. I had broken my wrist the week before the cruise, so was a little worried about how it would hold up. Fine, as it turned out, because their idea of quad biking was to roll along at less than 20mph over flat, wide, slightly bumpy gravel, in single file. Overtaking was not allowed. Straying from the track was not allowed. Having fun was most definitely banned! After a while I plugged my headphones in and listened to music while watching the mainly featureless view and trying not to snooze too much. My view of MTBing trips on a cruise may be coloured by that, slightly. 😀
So looking at the job spec it’s seems you are essentially doing 3 jobs a Bike Mechanic looking after 40 Bikes & Tour Guide & Demand Planner to keeps spares up to the needed level to maintain 40 Bikes all for 18k to 20k - someone’s having a laugh 😂

Is accommodation and food included in the package?
I worked for six months in Gran Canaria. The majority of the clientele were the type that got bored of sitting on a beach for the first week of their holiday and fancied doing something different.
It made for very mixed groups. Some were there purely for the riding and felt the tours sucked as each tour had to be designed around the lowest skill set.
Can imagine the cruise job being even worse.

That is actually quite well paid compared to working with exactly that for many bike hire / holiday / outdoor adventure companies.

could be perfect for someone who has spent the summer doing the same job but land based somewhere around the med. They aren't full time employees.
