Hi,

Can anybody recommend any family bike routes in Dumfries & Galloway? We’ll be base 5 miles from Dumfries, I know there is a wealth of fire road tracks in the region and obviously the 7stanes. But does anybody have any good scenic routes; child will either be in a kid trailer or child seat.

Cheers

Graham

Which side of Dfs are you staying?

Cafés at Glencaple, Caerlaverock Castle and WWWT centre. There is a walk you can do from the Castle up to Wardlaw Wood, site of an old fort. Various other walks in the area and around the castle. Beware of tides and quicksands if venturing onto the sand.

You can also cycle out to Ae on route 10, enjoy the cafe and green route which is trailer friendly.
There is also a track in the small forest at Heathhall accessed off the cycle path.
Small harbour at Kingholm Quay.
You cycle through the recently renovated Dock Park; https://www.facebook.com/friendsofdockpark

Clatteringshaw loop
Park at/near lake/visitor centre/cake/buns
A712 E, 1st L(yellow), follow NWish Southern Upland till bridge over Dee, turn S, the head E on cycle route back home.

We lapped Loch Trool and really enjoyed it but S side has some steep bits and some bits had bounce to a halt large gravel on the path (but this was better scenery than Clatteringshaws tho)

Raiders Forest drive (*I **think** it was this one would be good for a trailer

for a 'weird visit' - http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/dunure/electricbrae/index.html
pub and cafe in Dunure, Culzean castle is ok (can beach walk from Maidens(cafe) or park on site)

Nick of the Balloch road is worth a car drive

For a remote cup of tea (*don't know what the opening hours/season is)- Loch Doon Singletrack dead end yellow road (and if forest drive is open can link to Nick of B)

My favourite as a youngster up there was going along the coast from Carrick to Sandgreen then through Cally Pally to Gatehouse of fleet and back via Cream O'galloway and Knockbrex.
