It’s a shame Fairlight have changed their advertised tyre clearance as they can’t rely on the fabricator to hit their numbers. It would surely be better to get on top of that as they are clearly capable of making frames that fit a true 2.6 tyre.
There's a few pics of cracked stays that may be due to heavy crimping so perhaps what can be made for a sample and what works long term didn't line up. The stays are quite flat most of their length then vertical / heavily pressed around the tyre so rear end flex will concentrate at the edges of that pressed area. It's been a common fail point on some steel chainstay designs over the years.
