I've searched and there are threads highlighting the poor helmet mounts that come with these but I can live with that.
However, I am struggling to set up the lanyard so that it will stop the light getting knocked off should I hit branches or similar (most likely the ground!).
Is there a method? There's no loop in the body of the light as far as I can see?

Lay the light and the lanyard on a flat surface in a cross shape and pull the long thick bit through the thin bit, it won’t be tight as a knot but works.
You may be able to look at the cord zip pulls on your shorts or jacket to get an idea.
I’ve added a small zip tie to mine for added security.
Loop the thread section around the rear indents/vents.
You'll think 'what the flip, that'll come loose'
Mines not moved/come loose in the four years i've had it.
The lanyard end, loop into a helmet vent.
The mount is pretty good, i've been smacking it on branches and what not. Think i've only had the light pull out a couple of times.

This. Why would you want to be smacked in the face by your light?
My most recent incident (light went full tilt into a low branch that I didn't see) broke my lanyard.
Exposure, being the good bunch that they are, sent me a new one FOC
Is there not a tiny string loop that goes round the grooves of the unit that has a small plastic connector to connect to the rest of the lanyard?
Then just loop the lanyard round in on itself through part of the helmet.

If you don't trust the grooves on the body of the Joystick you can aways bodge something with a small zip-tie. Not pretty but hey.
Any way I configure it at the moment helps a little in terms of stopping the light getting knocked out of the mount but certainly wouldn't stop the light flying off should it leave the mount.
Not a big issue at the moment as its the only light I'm using but when I start using it as a back up I might not notice it gone!!
I’m sure every helmet mount exposure light I’ve seen has two small holes for the thin bit of the lanyard around the rim at the back.
Btw when the helmet mount breaks round the little ball groove thingamybob instead of paying £22 for a new one message their instagram account and say this is the 2nd one that's done this baayyy. And they'll send you another for nowt 😉
The lanyard has a plasic slider to adjust its length. I actually have the "wrong" end of the lanyard on the light, with that plastic slider keeping it tight, and the other side of lanyard doing a loop on the vent. I have hit branches a couple of times and it held fine.

I've always understood it to be a catch line to stop it flying into the bushes if it gets knocked off the mount.
I'd much prefer it to do that if the light hooks a branch rather than keeping the light in place and transferring all the force to my neck!
I've found it helpful to find it, I often have it on my head but not switched on
Watch out though, I hit a branch so hard once that it snapped my neck back and then ripped the light out from the helmet, ripping the lanyard literally THROUGH the helmet. Had to bin it after that
As most of the others i loop the lanyard round the grooves at the back and pull it through itself then i put a small elastic band round it to secure it a bit more. Other end loops through a helmet air vent
