the 2-step isn't droppping the full 45mm on my Lyriks.

i have read that i need to check the oil level/volume.

my mates u-turn Lyriks don't extend to the full 160mm, sitting around 145mm when wound out till the twiddly thing won't turn under 'normal' force.

also read it the problem may lay in the volume of oil in there.

how [s]scary[/s] easy is a service to carry out? specialist tools?

can i pop along to the local (motor) bike shop and buy the suspension oil he stocks? same stuff, isn't it?

any recommendations for specific oil - heavier/lighter than recommended? different volumes than stated?

cheers

Dead easy. Download the manual off the SRAM website, and they have vids on YouTube too.

I'd go with the weight of oil specified and I certainly wouldn't put in LESS than specified.

Too much oil can cause hydraulic lock, so tamper carefully if you're trying to adjust your spring rate.

To remove the U turn unit remove the top dial (watch out for the ball bearings & springs underneath) and use a 28mm socket to undo. Undo the allen bolt on the lower leg part of the way out and give it a whack with a rubber mallet. Then fully undo and remove the U turn unit. For your mate he'll be able to check out the spring to see if there is an issue. Not sure what the air unit looks like or what can be done with it once out.

Reverse to reassemble. You can stop loss of oil by carrying out the above procedure with the fork in a horizontal position. I did this to swap my u-turn spring out for a lighter one.

Oil can be had from a motorbike shop.

thanks guys.

unsponsered, is it worth trying to save the oil that comes out?

i've seen the vid on youtube. do i need a stand to put the fork in or can it be done with two pair of hands? matey can hold the forks while i bash 'em (don't trust him to read a map or set up his gears without help).
