MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Have a sneaking suspicion I started a thread like this a year or two back and probably got zero replies, but my ego can take another thread sinking without a trace!
1) Looking at a DT Spline wheelset. It says they are 350 hubs but they are the funky looking straight pull variant. Are the end caps likely to be the same? I need to convert to 135mm dropouts
2) Current DT 350 centrelock hub is spaced for 135mm QR but APPARENTLY I can swap endcaps and use it with 142x12mm. Presumably the bearings have a 12mm ID already despite being QR?
I have a bit of 4D wheelset chess going on involving rotating three different wheelsets between bikes 🙄
The hub body itself doesn't matter- the internals are the same whether it's straightpull or a wheel-specific or even a dt240-based specialized roval.
DT350 and 240 are interchangable, endcaps for one works for the other. The difference was mostly that they use different hub shells and the 350 has cheaper bearings. the "hub standard" spacers ie 135 to 142 are different for the different freehubs though- XD and shimano old and shimano new need a different freehub-side spacer.
There are some very, very old DT240 rears still out there that can't be converted directly to 142 because they're literally older than the 12mm standard, and so the axle isn't big enough. But even with those you can swap the axle with a newer one. The equivalent fronts are a bit harder.

Stick the wheelset in question into this and you should get which end caps you need to convert it, it also give you things like spare parts, which is nice.
My only contribution to this concerns an older say of 29er Bontrager wheels on 240 hubs. The rear converted to 12mm fine, but the front was qr or 15mm only.
Yah, they did "oversize" hubs that would do 20mm but most 240S sets only go to 15mm. And the 2 use different endcaps just to cause a little bonus confusion.
Oooh just for clarity everything I said was about the rears since OP was asking about rears. Fronts aren't quite so clearcut.
Thanks all, great info.
In conclusion, I'm an idiot. The rear hub in question actually came with 142x12mm end caps which I removed and converted it to 135mm, so I already have the end caps I need 🙄
Madison service peeps emailed back to confirm the end caps are compatible with straight pull AND j-bend shells, so am all good there.
Should really just have had the frame built 130mm in the first place 😂
