Well it's open!!
https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/ews-entry-lottery-2018-registration-39542528768

Riders completing in either the R5 LaThuile or R8 R8 Finale must have a UCI license issued by their national federation. Day licenses will not be available at the onsite registration. The R3 Orlagues, R4 Petzen/Jamnica and R7 Ainsa Zona Zero rounds also have race license requirements – but unlicensed riders will be able to purchase day licenses at the onsite registration.. Please see the Notices of Race published on the event pages on the EWS site for details.

Anyone who has done Finale or La Thuile got some more info on the UCI license? Not seeing an obvious link on BC about it and to make it more complicated I'm on an Australian license at the moment.

You need a full license from say BC .

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership/article/mem-st-Racing-Licence-Prices-0-Need-a-Racing-Licence--0

You then request a letter of authority to race abroad I think it's called

membership@britishcycling.org.uk

Interest you can race enduro on a BC licence outside of the UK but BC don't sanction/support enduro in the UK. Sounds odd.

It's the rules from the country hosting it - you need a UCI license which has to be issued by the country you are a license holder for. It's not BC endorsing it but enabling you to get the UCI part done. If that makes sense...

Morning Mike, Abigale has competed the last two years, in the EWS , on a BC Silver membership with no problems. First year we had letters in the different languages from them and a letter from her GP however these were never asked for so we didn't take any with us this year. We will check again later this month when it is due. Good luck with the lottery. Her licence has her UCI number on it and the categories it's allowed for

Just renewed Abigales licence, asked the usual questions, Silver is good with adition of the race licence fee on top of it.
Need to spend £800 at CRC to make it cost neutral.

Aha, how does that work then? You rock up, train for a race, enter the race , maybe qualify for the actual EWS and then be really knackered for it?

though the idea went around in Tassie but they decided it was a really stupid idea in the end 🙂 They all looked like they had a blast doing it (same trails just a couple removed) no time to be places just a loop limit and good racing - that and it was dusty

To me it sound odd that you can even enter the lotto without doing a qualifier.

I didn't get an email saying I wasn't successful but my names not on the list 🙁

I reckon the lottery places are probably only 10% of the spots with everything else going to pros or qualifiers. Glad I got the chance to race in it twice in years gone by as I don't think I'll ever get the chance again

Yep lotto is for everyone. They are fairly clear how places are allocated.
1 Pro Teams
2 Global Wild Cards (listed on the site with some fast names in there)
3 Qualifiers - Top 10/20 or so in each cat from the world quality events
4 Local Wild Cards - Think it was 10 per event
5 Lottery - No pre requisite for entering, everyone has the same chance, places probably went a lot quicker as there is a concentration in Europe
In contrast everyone I knew got into Tassie and Roto last year, I suspect the 2 SA rounds are similar.

It was 2 flights and about $1000 to my nearest one and that clashed with something I'd booked, next one was further away, lottery is to fill the spaces and keep the think profitable really.

I'll chuck my hat back in the ring come Jan as everyone who got all excited now has 72hrs to pay up to keep their place. Failing that the Challenger events are probably perfect for most people not racing so I'll aim for those, was just as much fun being part of the circus and getting out with the camera in some ways.

Managed to get in again, all four rounds I was interested in, but with work etc I'm going to have to drop Whistler this year anyway.

So, La Thuille, Spain & Finale for me. Looking forward to it 🙂

Not sure how their criteria works, I've raced at least one round most years - maybe it stands for something.

As an aside point, the entry comes in at a cool £122 this year per round 😯

Reserved entry Emails came out this morning, Uni means Abigale cant do the South American ones so just registered for the remaining six.
Entry prices have gone up a bit but in the grand scheme of things its not too bad.
Bike built and ready to roll, Tesco vouchers should pay for the tunnel, lots to sort.
Think with a bit of luck we will be going to four of the European ones to watch and do some riding, wish I could get the time off for Whistler.

Yeah good idea to keep the brand strong and to satisfy the demand, not sure about the Ft William timing though 😯

I think the continentals are a great idea. Still could do with a bit more structure to the qualifying events, even if its the way the advertise them.

Kinlochleven enduro in its various guises has always been in November without any issues.

No round in Millau this year but it hasn't moved too far away. Might go for the day.

If you want to do the French one and didn't get in, why not consider the 'Epic Enduro' event at the same venue on April 8th.

It looks pretty tough though. 100km with 5000m of descending.

The Epic is mental. One of the 3 loops is enough for any normal days riding!
The 2016 first loop: 1600m and 45 Kms...

Not wanting to digress from EWS, but have you done it ocrider?

Giving it a go this year.

The bikevillage write up makes it sound completely savage.

Olaf, I haven't, the closest I've got to it apart from a shuttle day from Mons is canoeing the orb valley with mates and getting far too pissed on St Chinian!
I don't think the organisers are blowing their own trumpets when they say that it's the toughest enduro competition in the world and I have neither the time or the inclination to prepare for such an event!

Anyone sign up for any challenger races? I'm in for Finale. So, EWS Ainsa then travel down to Finale for the challenger a week later. What an end to the summer, can't wait.
