You do now:

BTW, the chainstay go-pro location makes those trails look insanely fast! ๐Ÿ˜†

Well, my riding mates are in Morzine at the moment and I had to cancel a few weeks back because I'm a complete flipping idiot - so yes, desperately envious of trails I can't ride at the moment.

I'll probably go and ride Afan for the millionth time tomorrow.

I'm trying to type this through my tears.

Looked nice enough, but nothing amazing. I think if I'd flown around the world to visit just those trails, I'd feel a bit disappointed.

Just had a week out here:

In Maderia.

Came home to Peebles, rode everyday since coming home and am still blown away by our local trails.

So, is Maderia as good as it looks?

Yep, but then I plan something. Whistled, Utah and something else for August. Want to do Madeira after seeing the ews.

Yes!

Here now, put 2 x full days guided rides in this week with LokoLoko and loved it all. More details if wanted when I'm home and in front of a decent connection

Short version, yes, the riding in Madeira is ace!

Nope.

I'm very lucky in that I live in South Wales so have a massive variety of trails locally to choose from. I do like travelling to other places to ride different trails, from XC stuff to Bike Parks etc, but every time I come back home I'm reminded just how good I have it here.

Can you do us a quick write up when you're back Jamesmio?

Maderia is on my "next year" list ๐Ÿ˜‰

Agree with James. I've been twice with Freeridemadeira who have been featured in various magazines and organised the Enduro, we got to ride some of the trails(easy ones!!!). Hoping to go back on Nov ๐Ÿ˜€
However a word of caution. You book on a daily basis so can end up as I did with some mtb "virgins!!! Which can mean some loitering about at the end of a trail. Doesn't bother me as an "auld" guy out for a bit of fun I actually enjoy being "that guy" offering "advice" and being tail gunner

Having been there the year before and riding through "scorched" earth it was weird!!

Sometimes i do yes... But then i go out for a local ride, cover miles and miles of woodland, trails, fun and just being outside, then i don't get so jealous.

I love biking in different places, and although I haven't the resources to travel to the places you lot do, I've still managed to ride the Port hills above Christchurch and some of the trails around Queenstown NZ. I've MTB cycle toured in Morocco and had a guided ride through Red Rock Canyon in Nevada. I've ridden a couple of Welsh trail centres and I'm a very frequent visitor to the Lakes.

My bucket list definitely has a big tick missing next to proper mountain biking in Europe though, I'd really like to do that, even though all I'm looking for is lift assists then flowing single track descents. I've had too many broken bits in the past to want to do all that full face, enduro gnarly nonsense.

However, although there's still so many places I'd like to ride, I do appreciate that I live in Stirlingshire, and I'm surrounded by amazing trails. One of them actually starts about 20 meters from my doorstep! So, yes, I do get jealous when I see my mates flying off somewhere exciting (a bunch are jetting out to Morzine today), but that's only because they are going somewhere different, and I get excited about different stuff. Jealous about the trails though? Nah, I rode Dumyat on Saturday and it was dusty, fast, techy and amazing. Quite happy thank you!

C. xx

The other part for me is the social aspect, with new trails come new people and new experiences

Bikes, trails and exploring has taken me all over the best bit about all of that are the people. The guys in Roto who hooked me up with some riding buddies and still remember me when I go back, Ed and his guys over at Planet Bike there who is always good to have a brew with and talk bikes.
The random Canadians I met on an uplift in Utah and hung out with at Rampage, the guys from Arizona who fed me chilli and beers in the desert. Hanging out with Chris Ball and Cedric for a weekend of sweltering enduro racing.
The random chats on chairlifts, beers after and the new experiences and being shown somebodies home trails is amazing.

If I always rode the same spots I'd probably ride with the same people and good as that is there is way more out there

Yes, all the time.
I've got an abundance of mellow trails and double track around here, which makes for great fitness training, but a bit of a trek to get to something that really warrants a MTB rather than a gravel bike.

Also jealous of most places where the sky isn't varying shades of grey 300 days of the year.

Other places are great and I love to visit them - but the trails? Not really. I have GT and Inners if I want trail centres and plenty there to challenge a middleaged bimbler like me and I have right to roam that gives me the ability to wander round the scenery as I want.

Not jealous but envious of everything the Tweed Valley seems to offer. Awesome looking natural stuff (which I've never had the chance to try), off-piste man-made stuff (which I've ridden a couple of bits of) and all the trail centre stuff. But Calderdale has its benefits I guess ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes but I use that to inspire an annual biking holiday. The genesis for this years trip was Hannahs' write up on the Liv demo she did in Sedona ๐Ÿ™‚
