Most are maltodextrin IIRC

apple juice diluted with water with a good pinch of salt is a nice palatable natural isotonic(ish) energy drink with a good balance of electrolytes

How they have the cheek to call it natural when its maltodextrin or high fructose corn syrup I don't know.

Most are a 2:1 maltodextrin:fructose mix. You can buy maltodextrin in large quantities for bugger all on body building sites e.g. myprotein.com

I presume not yourself; but does anyone else find that bananas make their sinuses feel clogged? I get thicker than usual nasal mucus if I eat a banana before/during exercise. I do find, though, that apples and water will generally do me for most rides, perhaps with a low-sugar oat or nakd raw fruit bar.

I hate artificial sweeteners but can't see the problem with fructose.

Its seems that most have a maltodextrin fructose mix as already stated above. For short rides these drinks don't seem to pose a problem, its at 5-6 hrs plus where i get a nausea issue and after looking at my fluid and carb intake perhaps I'm fructose intolerant so was just trying to find another option. i think i might try just buying some maltodextrin and making up my own

No HFCS in Torq. Get your facts right bozo.

Moda - you sure about fructose intolerance? I don't think it's a common issue. 6 hours on energy drink is a long time so it's not surprising you get nausea. Try some food bars and water instead of just the drink.

Molgrips its not definately an intolerance and i do mix in a bit of plain water and solid energy bars on some rides and i seem to suffer the same... The energy drink is the ever present in the rides...

I might try that Torq natural with a little flavouring as that seems a good as place to start as any..

For 5 - 6 hour rides try binning the energy drinks altogether. Scoff a couple of oatcakes per hour, drink water with a Nuun tab in it.
Maybe a snickers or something too if you fancy a sweet treat.

How are you mixing the energy drink? I think upset stomach could be caused by too much carby sweetness. Try mixing the drink half or 2/3 strength (which I do anwyay, the dosage on the tin is way high) and then supplement with real food/bars.

in which case it is no longer isotonic. the dosage on the tin is for isotonic
