Wotcher,
reckon I need some elbow pads
dodgy elbows
getting old
avoid minor tree scrapes / brambles
etc
don't need D/H kit but something lightish, comfortable with some protection. CRC have some very cheap stuff in the sale. I wonder why? Any recommendations from this lot?

I've ridden all day in 661 Riots before and they're fine. Not too bulky, good for trail, might want more for jump or dh though
They're much better than the Riot knees IMHO. I have Rage knees (much better fit) and Riot elbows.
Wasn't impressed with the Riots, they use the same basic design as the old chicken wings so I found they don't really want to stay where they're put- shop test needed a lot of strap tightness to make them feel well placed. Both straps ended up on fat parts of my arms so there was nowt to hold them on.
TBh there are more bad elbow pads than good, too many companies try to make them small, which means they have to be dense to protect, which means they're not that flexible, which means they have to be tight and enclosing.
Just ordered some of the 661 rythm elbow pads. At £7, they had to be worth a shot!
Nukeproof armour is amazing. I use it for DH but its comfy enough to wear all day for trail riding.
Cheer guys,
vincienup - looked at the 661s, have same knee pads, reviews were carp though
teenrat - yeah, but £7, must be crap surely?
andypandy - Nukes look good, ta
Enduras? Bluegrass? Pocs look pretty but way too expensive, are they really any good or just Raphaesque?
They might be crap but at least they'll keep my arms warm!
I liked the nukes too but didn't think I could justify the extra cash for my use. If I wore them every time out then I probably would.
Fwiw, I think armour is like helmets and there really is no substitute for trying it on in a shop
Riots fit my arms well, but my arms are not pencil thin. They look more like climber arms tbh. I would trust the Nukes over the Riots if I hit anything hard, but I feel hard shell pads and soft Kevlar type pads are intended for very different impacts - obv Nukes are mot hardshell either. Riot knees were some of the least comfortable pads I've ever tried - on my legs. I tried Foxes and RF's too that didn't really fit me. The Rage's were spot on.
All depends what you want out of a pad I guess. I don't expect Riots to stop me busting an elbow, but I do expect to deflect hard scrape/scuff at trail (not DH) speed...
teenrat: Also used neoprene wrist and elbow braces - from the pound shop! Nice and toasty but not great for blood circulation...
I got some of the rhythms, basically just arm warmers with some honeycomb soft padding. Comfy though, if a bit warm. I bought mine for commuting on icy roads! 😳
They'll be fine for a bit of mince core too
Thinking on the Nukes or maybe the Lizard Skins softcell.
Anyone used those?
Reckoning soft(ish) style for me, 6ft and skinnyish by the way, at least the arms still are...
Also got the 661 Rythms - great for fitting under a jersey and at £8....
I bought some of the brand x elbow / forearm guards and they have been remarkably good for such cheap kit.
I got the 661 Rythms for £8 as well. Great for the money. I fractured my elbow twice last year so will try and look after it this year.
Another vote for Brand X. Cheap and cheerful - do their job nicely too.
I've got the 661 Rhythms for enduro use. Great elbow pads at a light weight and easy to pack when not in use. And I have crashed them (twice!) on sharp pointy rocks in Finale - jersey sleeve dissolved but they held true 🙂
Brand X did it for me, cheap comfy and really work when it goes pear shaped.
yeah, but £7, must be crap surely?
They are better than nothing in my view.
Cheers for all the comments. I've bought the Rhythms and Lizard Skin Softcells.
