Fitted some replacement EBC pads to my Magura Marta's end of last week, have ridden them twice since then (probably covered 70km off road so far), & trying to break them in as I've done countless times before on other disk brakes.
However, I've never used EBC pads before and they are pish (lack of intial braking bite) so far compared to the standard Magura pads...
Anyone else got much experience of EBC's, do they take a while to bed in?
I'll give them another couple of rides and see if the power increases but not overly impressed as of yet. ๐
I have used them and they seemed similar to other pads. Have you glazed them? Try sanding them and deliberately bedding them in - pedalling hard downhill with the brakes on
Do you not void your magura warranty using other manufacturers pads?
TJ - deffo haven't glazed them, have been making a concerted effort to pump the brakes in short blips to get a bit of heat into them as part of the bedding in process.
nickc - I was aware that I can't use sintered pads on Magura's (the heat melts the seals!) so I went for the 'green' organic EBC pads which should be fine. I hope... ๐
im not sure what this 'breaking in' thing you talk about. ive used a few sets of different makes and never ever 'break them in' i just fit them and they work straight away, always, also while i think about it i hardly go through pads either like some people do on here (1-2 rides WTF?)
Fatmuthahubbard. Its a conundrum. some pads / riders / brakes need deliberate bedding in, some bed in in normal riding. Some get stupidly quick pad wear - other folk using identical brakes in identical conditions get long life.
I am currently running a set of the EBC reds which are stated as 'Downhill only' but they are no different to standard Avid organic pads and also aren't wearing away any quicker. If these are the reds then i would guess the greens are even harder...
TJ - it's 'cos muthahubbard is fat. Big weight = fast bedding in (a la motor vehicles).
glen - I wondered but to polite to say ๐
