Who can you recommend for bike bits on ebay and who to avoid, or is not completely honest about condition of goods. I notice some selling used for chainreaction prices.

I’ve had a few decent deals from outdoor_outlet: xm481 rims for £50 and they had a park truing stand down to £150 the other day.

braeview engineering are pretty good for bearing presses, drifts etc

Depends what you want really. I've never had any problems with Wiggle on eBay but I've read a few comments on here that suggest otherwise.

A lot of the other outlets just seem to be selling there normal stuff at normal (i.e greater than CRC/Wiggle) prices so no real benefit, very few do auction bids like Wiggle (trisportresort is there ebay moniker).

Personally, I'd just check the seller, see if the description looks legit, not much more you can do really.

eBay has this function called 'feedback', it's quite informative...

Amazing how many overpriced private sellers have 100% positive feedback because mugs just buy anything second hand without seeing if its cheaper at CRC. its also easy to have 100% from mainly buying stuff so its no guarantee. Smart arse.

Sounds like you just need to go to crc then and leave eBay to the so called mugs
Which of the 17million sellers on eBay do you want us to go through For you
Use the feedback and make up your own mind
If it's too expensive then don't buy it

You could always check what the feedback is for i.e. selling or buying so it is evidence that the eBayer is good or bad.

Feedback generally is no longer being used as much as it was 10 years ago. I probably get feedback for about 10% of what I sell (all sent next day, all described well, packaged well etc,. and have 100% on literally 1,000s of sales) whereas in the past feedback was more like 90% of the items I sold. Saying that if someone has negative feedback I avoid them.

Also agree with Big-Bud, as there are millions of people selling it is impossible to list who is good or bad.

Just because you think it is over priced doesn't mean the buyer did and also doesn't mean the seller didn't deserve the feedback. Also some of those selling at CRC price will be businesses with warranty etc.

Being able to get above market price for goods your selling doesnt make the seller a crook

its also easy to have 100% from mainly buying stuff so its no guarantee.

its easy to get 100% feed back as a buyer , all you have to do is pay promptly , though this is of no relevence for a perspective buyer so i dont see your point

Stick to buying from shops if you find the ebay marketplace too risky.

Agree with the sentiment expressed by others , its a dumb question that cant be answered in any meaningful way if you dont want to rely on seller feedback

Some I've used, must've been good cos they're in my saved sellers:
(soz, can't link at work)
Highonbikes
bikefridge
merlin_cycles
gobike88_uk
simeonnation (good for suspension spares)
usedbikepartsuk
woollyhatshop ! (forgot about them - used to be my goto for Shimano stuff)

The other thing about feedback these days. If you open a case to return item because it was not as described for example, the opportunity to leave feedback is lost as the item listing is not there to add feedback to. So the few sellers who have been bad have not received bad feedback because it was not possible to do it.

Blimey they're a blast from the past. Back when I started riding it was them or CRC!

And having to phone orders though!

Wow, so much hostility and misunderstanding for an innocent inoffensive question asking about trustworthy private sellers of mountainbike parts youve dealt with, i didnt mean the entire Ebay. I have been disappointed with stuff from a seller with 100% positive feedback so its definitely no guarantee, surely you've bought from people and thought I wont buy from them again but not bothered with feedback, and people who pay shop prices for second hand can only be described as mugs. Some sellers just want to make as much as they can and some seller's just have regular clearouts and are nice and reasonable, surely the good guys deserve a mention. Hope this doesnt trigger the people whos only input to this forum is insults.

*All sellers.

Otherwise they would be charities. Also, eBay is an auction site, so sellers usually don’t set the prices. As for the ones selling BIN for more than the cheapest new online, not everyone paid the absolute cheapest/has encyclopaedic knowledge of where all the cheapest stuff is.

The trouble with asking ‘which private sellers are good’ is that they aren’t shops, so just because someone bought exactly what they needed, for no money doesn’t mean they will be any good to you/will have those items again.

Your question sounds a bit ‘who can I take advantage of?’

I've sold used stuff on ebay and it has ended up going for more than people could buy it new - but that's their fault not mine. Asking for recommendations for private sellers rather than shops is very hit and miss - people are either traders or not, and if its' the latter then your idea of value may differ with someone elses, so you may well end up feeling hard done to!

trustworthy private sellers of mountainbike parts youve dealt with,

I just sold a pair of roadie shoes, they went for an average price and were in very good condition with loads of photos of the few scuffs.

However that information is useless as the next time I sell a pair of roadie shoes will be in about 10 years time. There's no point hanging around watching my ebay account waiting. Same with anything I put on ebay, I'm not likely to become a good seller to buy any particular thing from simply because I'm not going to buy something, sell them, buy another, sell them, etc (although I know some people who refer to this as "sending them for an ebay service" when it comes to 3yr old forks that are beyond economical servicing).

some seller’s just have regular clearouts

As above, no one genuinely selling their surplus kit is doing it that regularly. Anything regular is either:

a) Someone buying and splitting full bikes to make a bit of cash to subsidize their hobby, nothing wrong with that. But your buying stuff that even the seller doesn't know the history of so I usually avoid them.

b) Wiggle or other shops selling off their returns (wiggle particularly are worth keeping as a favorite seller).

c) Thieves / fences.

A and C are impossible to tell apart unless the spelling is really bad.

A bit harsh calling the guy dumb, he's clearly only asking for recommendations on reliable used bike part sellers, he is right about feedback, you can have 100% pfb and still be an arsehole.
Like kerley suggested there are ways to trick the system, a mate of mine has just blocked someone called ninja for sending him pisstaking offers lower each time and continued with messages harassing him and they've got 100% pfb despite being a git, trying to pay a pittance then sell it on for double/treble the price.
You do get sellers who just want a quick sell, selling practically new stuff for a bargain, it could look suspicious to some but some people would rather have more room and less clutter in their lives.
