Well, all good things must come to an end and thay lovely clause in the EasyJet Carrier Terms & Conditions that stated "bicycles will be exempt from excess baggage charges" has gone and been replaced with a very clear total limit of 32kg's for bike and hold luggage.
You used to be able to take up to 50Kg as long as one bag wasn't more than 32Kg.
Well, its going to be a struggle I'm sure and various spares I used to take will be getting left at home and I'll have to cram my cloths into a cabin bag to take onto the plane for the first time.
Just to warn you all so you don't get a nasty shock at the check in desks
When did this happen?
I flew with them at the weekend - no issues.
I don't know how long ago you're talking about? I've taken my bike with Easyjet a few times over the last couple of years and it's been a maximum of 32kg everytime.

A non-refundable sports equipment fee will be charged. The bicycles are exempt from additional excess baggage charges.
At the weekend I had 19kg bag and 20kg bike bag.
I prefer Beej's Customer Servcies version but I get this one under bicycles within sporting goods within baggage allowance.

Im flying with them in the morning for a week with Riviera Bike, flights booked in january so hoping they will honour any terms and conditions at the time of the booking.. 😕
Flew with them April 2012 the 32k rule was in place then.
easy jets policy is 32 kg for bike and luggage but a maximum allowance of 50 kg.
so 32kg is included in the £25 you pay to take the bike but you are allowed to take upto 50kg if you pay the extra weight allowance.
Along with 19 other club mates we have flown twice from Liverpool with Easyjet this year. Most riders had bike cases in addition to hold luggage, and there were no problems. most bags/cases weighed in at 19 kg +, hold luggage a similar weight.
OP you are wrong!!!!!!!!!
Doubledunter, let us know how you get on, both the hol and the baggage. I'm off to riviera in July, with easyjet too. 😀

Don't believe that is the case anymore but given the various pages on the EJ website at cross purposes to each other, who knows.
This is the main "sporting equipment" page, and it says very clearly that if you pay for bike and a bag, the total is 32kg

But you've missed the line:
"Further information on the carriage of bicycles can be found here."
Click on the word "here" and it takes you to the page I posted - which says cycles are exempt from excess baggage charges.
They do seem to have some confusion on their site though.

It says exempt from additional excess baggage charges. Not "exempt from the weight limits imposed by the fee you have paid"
But as you say, plenty of room for confusion.
G.
Yeah these threads start every now and again and admittedly the EasyJet website info does contradict itself however NOTHING has changed. The bike excess baggage exclusion still applies so you are still allowed 50kg.

...will do 😀 😉
I still like the grammatical error in this line:
•No other items can be carried in the bicycle box/bag (i.e. clothing)
Surely they mean e.g. clothing. By say ie they are implying that only clothing cannot be put in the bike box/bag
It was 32kg when I flew march 2012, shouldn't be too much off of a problem for most people - I had an evoc bike bag with a heavy, freeride specced, Orange Alpine 160, a few of tools inc. a large pedal spanner, body armour, backpack, full face and shoes and it came to 32 Kg exactly (I hadn't read the terms and the baggage handler pointed out that if it had been heavier i would have had to pay more) . Unless you've got a really meaty DH bike I think it's a fair allowance.

...Ive got my pads and helmet in bike bag, pads are wrapped around frame as is helmet, hoping ths is cool with them if they check, either that I'll be walking on the plane with a helmet on
When I last flew with them in March I had bike shoes, helmet, tools, gels and some clothing all in the bike bag, they've never done anything but x-ray the bag when I've flown and never questioned anything even when it's obvious on the scanner there's stuff apart from the bike in it. The large item guy always seems to be airport staff rather than airline staff anyway so can't see them enforcing specific airline T&C on the contents.
I'll be travelling next week with a copy of this version of the page which handily doesn't include the "no other items" line 🙂

As above, my bike + Evoc bag is about 23kg so plenty of scope for the usual extra bits before getting close to 32kg.
Why does this topic crop up every year and we always get the same answer!
Bike bag/box = 32kg
Hold baggage = 20kg
Bike and hold baggage must not exceed 50kg
Hand baggage = 5kg
I always carry my helmet as hand baggage, never hand a problem.
I always stick my pads etc in with the bike as extra padding, I figure if they complain I'll tell them it's because we can't trust their slingers, and if I take them out and the bike gets hurt I'll see them in court. Friendly like, obviously 😉

I guess it's partly because they've changed the website and it's harder to find (I knew exactly what I was looking for and still missed it in the sea of smallprint)
either that I'll be walking on the plane with a helmet on
Brian, I carried my helmet on (in a bag) That's the one thing I wouldn't trust to be flung around by a baggage handler.
I stuffed my helmet and pads into my bike bag, it tipped the scales at 30Kg.. No problems at all, be nice to the checkout lady and all will be fine. Be a cock and she will be a bitch. 😉
There should a be a FAQ for this forum, or maybe a FAT (Frequently Asked Topics)

Maybe so but don't you think it would be quicker to ask EJ customer services than posting the annual EJ baggage question and getting the same results? .... Confusion.

It wouldn't be, no. Also, you're less likely to get the correct answer from EJ. (I asked 3 times and got 3 different answers, kept the one I liked)
Fair point but think a lot of forum members not just STW are quick to post without doing the necessary research to their question.
But again we are all possibly guilty of that! 😉
Here goes and hopefully this will put a stop to the few that are worrying!
Thank you for contacting easyJet
Bicycles are exempt from any excess baggage charges relating to the weight of the bicycle. If the hold baggage and bicycle weigh more than 32kg, passengers will not have to pay any excess baggage fee as long as the hold bag weighs no more than 20 kgs and the bicycle weighs no more than 32 kgs. The total weight of the baggage cannot exceed 50 kgs.
Also for hand baggage there is no weight restriction however there is a dimension restriction of 56x45x25cm.
The above is the reply I got!
