Looking to head to Exmoor at the end of July, I've ridden there before so know there are plenty of hills! Looking for family friendly suggestions... so nothing too steep or too long... already have Tarka Trail & Wimbleball Lake on my radar, any other suggestsions?
p.s. I'm open to one-way routes with a generally downhill trend so long as there's something interesting at the end to amuse wife & kids while I go back for the car 🙂
Ride up horner water from horner to pool bridge, then return the same way? Car park and café at horner as well. About as flat as you'll get there and very pretty too.
watersmeet bridleway is a gentle descent then a gentle climb (for exmoor) in either direction. not technical riding and theres a cafe at the halfway point so you could always descend, leave them there and go back for the car!
the bridleway along the doone valley/ river barle is fairly flat too.
guess the ride along the top of dunkery above minehead porlock if you accessed it by car.
where are you staying?
Thanks for the help chaps 🙂
Probably staying at Halse Farm, Winsford.
Had been eyeing up the track to Dunkery Beacon on OS maps & google satellite view and thought it might be a possiblity.
Horner is a good shout.
If you drive up to the top of North Hill there is a flattish bridleway ride over to Selworthy Beacon. Nice fairly non technical downhill through the woods from there to the tea shop in Selworthy itself.
The riverside route from Tarr Steps to Withypool is good fun - flattish but with a couple of mild technical sections and involves a couple of fun river crossings - one via a ford the other by stepping stones. You can do a complete circuit via a steepish climb on a quiet road and try your skills riding over the steps or just head back the same way. There is a pub at either end too!
