I'm bunking off work on Friday.
Both Hopton and Eastridge woods are a similar distance from my house.
Which one has the better XC route ?

If say hopton has the better xc route East ridge has alot of good trails but probably more 'enduro' .

Is the Hopton route marked clearly as I don't have a GPS?

^^ what they said, however an Eastridge and stiperstones xc ride is better if you're not after a just follow the signs ride.

Hopton is a great little route it is marked but there is a section where you will end up on the downhill route if not paying attention ,you get spewed out into a field and it's a steep walk to get back up , thought it was just me but as I'm getting my bearings in the field another couple of lads arrive with great big grins but a look of bewilderment about them having done the same thing . If you see road sign chevrons on the trees then your on the wrong route

About 24km, or thereabouts, it's a decent half day ride.

Hopton is great.
When you ride through the quarry at the bottom then climb on the fireroad. A few minutes after you re-enter the singletrack on a climbing sharp left hander, look on the right for a little trail that drops back into the trees. It leads back down to the quarry and is a nice little extra. ๐Ÿ™‚

The off piste on either is excellent, steep and tech without being too stupid!

I'm off there this friday. I'm planning on doing Eastridge then move on to Hopton afterwards. All before riding on Long Lynd itself on Saturday. Is this plan ok, or should I map out an Eastridge/Stipperstones routes instead for the Friday?

Just so I plot the best route, which are the best descents and kindest climbs at Stipperstones?
