EASTON EA30 HANDLEBAR STEM RECALL

I have received a letter today from the importers of these stems to inform me of a “Voluntary Recall” issued by Easton on stems made between January 2007 and August 2009.

To kind out if your stem is affected please look for the following:
It is an Easton EA30 4 bolt stem
Either on the upper left hand side or the lower right hand side of the stem should be a series of numbers and letters etched onto the stem. The 1st will be the length, the 2nd should be the angle and the 3rd should be a letter and number combo.
If the letter and number are any of the following, your stem is one of the affected stems and you should contact where you bought it from to arrange a replacement.

I got a call from my lbs to check out one of these on a bike I bought a while back.

It's now been returned as apparently they can crack and fail through the middle of the stem.

Anyone had one of these fail on them?

i am more disappointed that the importers wont have any replacements in stock for at least a week, so I cant use my bike. (well i could, but having been told the stem may break i am none too keen).

Yeah I now have a bike with no stem but my lbs seems to think there is stock to replace oem versions already fitted to bikes but they will have to wait for replacements for their stock.

Hope it's not gonna be a weeks wait, although rather that than having it fail on me miles from anywhere.

Took mine off as soon as i saw the article here on STW and posted back the next day, that was two weeks ago.

Yesterday i recieved an invoice for £0 for a EA50 stem but no actual stem?!

Luckily i had a spare stem lying around so no big deal.

ajantom

codea@bellsports.com is the european contact on http://www.eastonbike.com.
Either there or your lbs should know where to send it.
