I know another 26v29 debate but I am about to build a winter mountain bike up. I was thinking that a 29er would be better for the muddy conditions that I get round my way.
1) better grip via larger contact area.
b) more stable at slower (muddy) speeds.
anyone with any thoughts on it?
Make a 69er, best and worst of both.
doh i meant 69er!
Would've thought that a 29er would be worse in the mud, due to a larger contact patch equalling more drag through the mud, and bigger wheels being slightly less manouevreavle?
I don't know for sure, not tried it, but would've thought the benefits a 29er brings (faster once up to speed, more stable at speed) are totally null and void in the winter, and the downsides of a 29er are more apparent?
I thought the 69er would cut through the mud better because you could use a thinner tyre but still have a longer but narrower profile.
