planned ride for Sunday...
meet Drem Station for ride out 11am-
allows anyone to travel from Edinburgh by train,
Waverly departs 10.33 am for North Berwick,
spin up over Garlton Hills then alongside river Tyne to Tyningham village cafe for cake,
then through woodland trails around Tyningham/Whitekirk area and return to Drem via more tea and cake stop at the man cave... around 4 hours out, 30-40 miles easy trails, relaxed pace,Hip flasks welcome 😉
return trains to Edinburgh from 3.27pm,4.27pm, 5.27pm. etc...
all invited 😮
would have loved to but have plans out selkirk way this sunday
Cool, a proper Local ride! and late enough for a nice long lie too, might well come along.
Do you know if Andy (Houshusband) is planning on going? I'll see if he wants to ride over.
<EDIT> just left a reply over there << 😉
Sounds good, hope to be there!
Boo. Am in NI.
Will keep an eye out for this, 50\50 at the moment.
Possibly. And that might include a lift out for a couple more.
Very dependent upon family issues though....
This will depend on what DIY i have booked in my schedule...
Too many bookings elsewhere, bummer a little wild ride would of been good too.
TBC has DIY if he wants me to plaster a room out soon 😉
Would the ride be ss friendly in case at the last minute i can make it?
Would be interested but work has me elsewhere just now...thanks for organising it tho!
Make it a 32:12 sharki, Bruce doesn't hang about once the Pug is rolling.
might try to get along. Druidh if a lift is going gies a shout ta 🙂 especially if its a tandem friendly lift 🙂
I do have a night shift to work sunday night
😯
I thought it would be a relaxed ride given Druidh showed interest... 😉
Manflued just now but should point out that there are no trains this weekend because of engineering works, buses instead which probably won't take bikes!
Paul
Oops - ta for that phlemo
Yup Phlemo is right , there are engineering works at Abbeyhill and Drem to Grantshouse . Might head down If not working on one of the above jobs.
Oh bugger about the trains! 😕
the pace wont be too fast sharki and SS will be fine 😮
You say that now, I remember 32:16 not being fast enough on the way to Yellowcraigs.
lol...big group ride=relaxed pace!,
reminds me to top up Hip flask for Sunday
Big group ride=fast and furious for a bit, then stop for twenty mins to fix a puncture, then ride off and discover someone else also has a puncture. And repeat. Getting more and more tempted by the minute. Might even bring the SS.
apart from one short steep climb a near perfect SS route is planned Steven 😮
only one short steep climb, pah, not enough 😈 As long as there are no partially dismantled fences.
Looks like I'm in for this after all, provided non-niche bikes are acceptable.. Should have roof space for 1, normally proportioned, velocipede from Bonaly / south of the town (poss 2 if we're struggling)
looks like enough cars available then to cover the cancelled Train service...better go buy more cake... 😮
I'm gonna drive out, so if anyone wants a lift from Easter Road end of E'burgh (room for 3) then let me know in this thread.
nice to see you there 7hz 😮
forcast is good and a N.E breeze is ideal for a tailwind up the Garlton ridgeroad...
been and got loads of cake!(keep Mr Menmuir happy!)
Still not quite fit enough for a 30 miler yet, getting there though!
Do you know if Andy (Houshusband) is planning on going? I'll see if he wants to ride over.
Yup - have replied on the 'other channel'!
Hip flask full, just got to fit a sensible gear on the ss and maybe a mud tyre?
regular tyres will be fine Steven, for me thats Ardents,
just gonna fill the hip flask too 😮
lots of cake in stock...
steven, not sure on Coastkid's exact route but it absolutely pissed down last night here (10miles away) and I've been out for a ride today and I def wouldn't have wanted a mud tyre. most of East lothian is usually pretty dry.
<EDIT> I type too slow 😳
I am negotiating a pass right now.
i thought it would dry up quite a bit today with that wind blowing but seeing as we wont be on much tarmac you could fit your mud tyre then steven...better than you throwing things at me later in the day 😆
good news is nettles on retreat
Out at Ratho today and not even the slightest hint of a breeze all day. The tyre on the ss coped with all the mud at 10@kirroughtree so guess it can stay on.
was a Typhoon here on the coast...baltic too 😮
Blowing a hooly down the Lang Whang - and from the "wrong" direction too!
Aye it was a bit chilly this morning, but by the afternoon I was regretting puttin on a thermal t this morning, although I didn't regret it for long.
will deft have the chiminea fired up outside the garage for the 2nd cake stop 😮
Holding a team meeting at 10:30 on Sunday morning and it will last until 11:30ish so wouldn't be able to make it i'm afraid
Should be along for this ... Sounds like we might be going for 'biggest group ride ever' at this rate
Biggest TBC evening ride so far has been 23....
Well I hope to make it but might be begging fora lift tomorrow.
Am I indecisive? I am not sure
Anyone able to offer a lift from Trinity?
If you can get a bit to the south you gotta deal, Kit - say, around Tollcross / The Cameo for 10?
I'll think about it Rob. TBH I'm seriously lacking motivation to ride, and I don't know if I can be arsed riding all the way up to Tollcross with my stuff.
Thanks for the offer though, I'll text you later when I've made my mind up.
Since Bruce has gotten cake in it would be rude not to come along for the ride.
7Hz - do you still have room for a bike and rider in exchange for petrol pennies?
hope you can make it Kit 😮
where is jimmy?, France?,
was out on some of tommorrows trails early this morning and there still dry despite the rain the other day, looking good!
debaser - You are 1st passenger booked on the Surf Express leaving from corner of Easter Road and Harrismith Place at 10.15 tomorrow! Dinnae worry about petrol money...
Kit - If you can make it to Albion Road from Trinity, you are welcome as well.
Just turn up and I'll spot you, Green Surf is parked on corner ready. If you need to contact me, I think CoastKid has my mobile number from a PM I sent him on MTBR.
Organization!
Well decisions made - We both would like to join in so looking for a tandem friendly lift from leith / edinburgh - . Todays riding was not too strenuous so there are miles left in the legs. Druidh - are you taking the uglipla?
If no tandem lift available we will ride out and bail halfway to ride back
Ta folks
cheers 7Hz, shall see you there at 1015.
great to see a tandem on the trails TJ 😮
hope you can make it!
Coastkid - we will probably end up riding out and therefore only able to join you for a few miles not the whole thing unless a saviour with a big roofrack / estate car / van pops up. Times like this not owning a car is a pain.
I must get a tow behind a motorbike sorted.
I'll have the van but don't think it's long enough, otherwise I'd give you a lift back. Not saying where to mind.
steve - it goes in a small van - wheels off its under 6 ft. We have had it in a mondeo hatchback before now
That would be great if possible
Righto, I'll take some of the crap out of it tonight to make space. I'll ignore comments about taking me on extra hilly routes.
Cheers.
7hz - got a lift organised, but thanks.
Will be bringing me camera with the long lens so everyone: make sure you're all dolled up and looking sweet for the camera 😉
Doh, don't have enough time to get ready for the long lens, will rough and ready do?
Just had a call from the Hospice, so count me out.
Mibbe next time.
Have a good one.
Lovely day for it. Would have been worth coming along just to see the tandem in action however have to head out and buy a car later so just ended up doing a local ride in the Pentlands.
Great ride coastkid!
Good to meet you all and what a cracking day as well as great guiding and cake 🙂
Next - long hot bath!
druidh - MemberJust had a call from the Hospice, so count me out.
🙁
thoughts with you old chap.
Well I am cream crackered. Absolutely puggled.
Thanks to steve for the lift back otherwise we would still be on the road somewhere. Or possibly sleeping in a hedge
Thanks to Coastkid fro the guiding - altho I have learnt that time and distance seems a little flexible in east Lothian / coastkidworld. "Its only a couple of miles to the cake stop" " No more climbing" yeah right.
Grand day out tho. Very scenic and good company. Ta
You didn't fall for the old 'just a couple miles more' chestnut did you?
Afraid so - I have learnt for the future tho
Fantastic day out! Can't believe how lucky we were with the weather. Great company, though a few folks whose names or STW monikers I never caught; chap on the white Cannondale hardtail, and the 456 and sideburns of magnitude I could only ever dream of growing?
Am rather knackered, too; many thanks to Tom for the lift back to Pencaitland.
"This is the last gate TJ". Uh huh...
Epic ride, stunning scenery at times (particularly when following HH) and niiiiice cake 🙂
Can I give a speshul thanks to Mrs TJ for retaining her good humour as I dumped her in two beds of nettles in the first 20 mins?
I am off to work now - nice 12 hr nightshift. Think of me as you enjoy your beer and beds 🙁
Sympathetic vibes emitted, TJ!
Ive got that Stranglers song in my head; 5 minutes (and were almost there...) 😮 i see a Stranglers soundtrack for the films...
Thanks to all who turned up and hope you liked my neck of the woods/trails...yep its the small county with big skys...
hard keeping track of time and distances when out enjoying ones self...:o
Well done TJ who after riding his grand tandem is now off to a 12 nightshift!, thanks for the shot of the tandem with Gary, thats a cool machine,
The weather has been lovely today as was the trail conditions and the company and some fine whiskey`s 😮 waiting on pics uploading...
cheers folks, that was a grand day oot. thanks for showing us around your neck of the woods Bruce... great riding, cake and company.
456 and mutton chops were mine Andy 😀
hopefully see some of you out and about soon.
alasdair
