Hiya All,
I'm staying in North Berwick, East Lothian for the week. I'm looking for off-road routes in the area. Don't really want to go to the pentlands and all I know is John Muir way. I grew up in the area so know it well, just don't know the off road options.
Thanks, Ben
Hi - Lammermuirs is full of landrover track, good for a longish spin. Lots of hills.
Look up Coastkid (blog) for loads of ideas for basically all the routes in the vicinity, although he seems to focus on fatbikes these days.
I am indeed Nik ๐
Binning woods south of North Berwick on the JMW is good for singletrack, alog with the river tyne trail from Haddington to Dunbar.
Some nice trails from Bolton to Gifford too,
Herring road from Dunbar to Borders is also good for a serious workout on a regular MTB ๐
^^ CK knows the score , If you are around when I'm off there is a good 20/30 mile loop from Pencaitland that can be done fairly quickly . If your not search for Butterdean woods , Slatoun woods and Pencaitland or follow me on Strava.

Is the river Tyne trail an easy one to follow (quite possibly a silly question as it's along a river)?
I work out in Haddington a few days a week and ride out from Edinburgh when I can. I thought that I might extend that and ride to Dunbar then maybe up to North Berwick and catch the train back. Is there much of an off road route up to N Berwick? It would be nice to ride next to the sea.
Thanks all. Coastkid, I checked out your blog and the singeltrack videos of the Garletons anf the river to Hailes Castle - looks great. Many thanks!
No Probs bjh ๐
Kunstler; the John Muir Way can be followed all the way from Dunbar to North Berwick via East Linton, Can be done after riding the river tyne trail from Haddington to Dunbar ,
From North Berwick the JMW goes west along or near to the coast all the way to Musselburgh where cycle tracks lead into Edinburgh. Take an OS Map and you will see some diversions worth taking along all these routes ๐
