I last rode a skateboard some 25 years ago - It probably had Ninja Turtles on 8) ๐ณ
I fancy giving it a go under the guise of taking my son to the local skate park.
We've a really good skate shop near by that stock a huge range and seemingly even expensive set ups are cheap compared with the cost of cycling bits.
Sooooo any skaters on her.
Pointers.
Bad idea?
My only thoughts is you falling off and not going to work ! Do you get sick pay ? If your not self employed etc I'd say go for it and your son is a great excuse. Try a long board . Bit more simple and easier for cruising. Also help you pick it up.
Skateboarding is rock hard. Why don't you ask that local shop to loan you a board for 5 minutes. Doing anything at a skatepark, even dropping in and carving around is a million times harder than it looks. Why do you think everyone is on scooters now?
Just as likely to fall off a bike than a board. Actually, no, that's probably a lie. But the vast majority of the time you'll walk away with minor cuts and bruises. In fact they'll likely become part of your daily life ๐ In terms of proper injury, it's really no more dangerous than mountain biking.
It's not something that's easy to learn though. If you've done it before, then it's like riding a bike. If not, then don't expect to get any good at it. Just cruise and have some fun.
Get a long board and just cruise

Skateboarding hurt me more than riding ever has.
