Apparently not..
what's cumbersome to one of the best riders on the planet and what's not doesn't really play much of a factor in terms of real world average MTBer riding does it ?
Aye, don't fall into the trap that just because Danny can do it...
Although, going by the stuff that gets posted on here, the vast majority of STWers are 'wheels on ground' type riders, so it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to them anyway.
However, it was a cool vid 🙂

True, the millions they all spend in sponsoring the best riders in the world every year is pretty pointless 😉
Great video as always with Danny.
If you had never picked one up you could watch that and think ooh that looks easy to ride (which is Danny’s job to make it look that easy)
But in the real world They are still Heavy and crazy expensive.

I'm not saying that at all. But watch a video of a bloke J turning a transit into a parking space, that doesn't mean everyone can do it. Danny is in a world of a handful of riders who can do certain things, just because he can do it on an E-bike doesn't mean they're little, nimble and will transform an average riders abilities.
If only all adverts were as fun to watch as that one.
Anyone watched the "making of" video for A Wee Day Out?
How the bike was modified for each stunt - frame filled with sand and a backpack full of rocks for the underwater bit, wheel with the freehub removed for riding on the rolling hay bail (needed a running start to get up to speed).
Wouldn't be surprised if all the actual trials shots had a fake battery and motor in.
Having demoed the Heckler at the weekend I can say it is really unnoticeable the difference to my mega 290. Had it all over the Inners downhill/off piste trails and it was just so much fun. Main issue is gathering so much momentum so easily you had to brake earlier than you normally would. If I had the cash I'd buy one immediately. Will sadly have to wait until we re-mortgage.
Given that I assume Danny could do most of that on a trials bike with a petrol engine that weighs significantly more, I doubt that the extra weight of the battery is holding him back much...
Saying that, you could see the extra weight he was fighting with, especially on the pedal gap where he had to get soooo far back to make the landing! I was properly impressed with the climbing though, shows you what you gain on technical climbing (as opposed to just being lazy!).
Cadence in Bath have a test bike, I'm resisting a visit...

That for sure. If i lived somewhere with that sort of climbing that was basically impossible to most riders on a standard bike, then sure, i get it...
In West Berks, not so much 😉
A big Meh from me.
Have zero interest in mtb ebikes....
E-cargo on the other hand.....
Ex WW2 base?
Cool video, like Danny a lot.
It’s not surprising that a world class (world’s best?) trials rider can work wonders on a really lightweight motorcycle though, surely?
Didn't do anything to increase my interest in ebikes. Just reinforced a few existing prejudices if I'm honest. But always fun to watch Danny in action as he does find some fun places to ride.
Guys like Danny have so much skill that they could be riding anything and make it look good/easy. Case in point, fabio wibmer.
world’s best?
Martyn Ashton talks about this with GMBN
It was that Fabio Wibmer video that got me off the X-line road gap, figured I had no excuses on my DH bike.
I used to ride trials for a number of years. More than anything, I have always been super impressed by how well Danny can chuck around a full sus MTB. Even at vanilla trials moves (taps / gaps / sidehops), he's better on a Santa Cruz than I ever was on a dedicated rigid no seat trials bike which is crazy. By contrast, I can barely do anything trialsy on my (160mm travel) MTB - it feels horrible and squishy.
I thought he looked laboured riding there though. The tech uphill stuff was kinda cool but the trials riding in that video was very average, especially for Danny. If anyone was going to convince me I need an eBike, it would be him. But I'm definitely not there yet.
Let's face it, you still have to pedal them.

I'm not actually convinced it is that good an advert - it didn't make me want to go and buy one. To me it looked like he was having a pretty hard time of it, even compared to his videos on 'normal' mountain bikes (as in, not trials bikes).
If a rider as skilled as he can make it look hard work to throw it around, in my hands I'd be as well trying to style it up on a cement mixer.
I realise it's not supposed to be a trials bike, but if the video concept is 'look how easy it is to throw around this big heavy ebike' I'm not sure it hits the spot.
Agree, he just looked sluggish and on some of the jumps looked like how a mere mortal would look on their MTB, just clearing it with no real height etc,.
Although the edie part of the bike won't be helping in this scenario as it is just making the bike heavier with no benefit from the heavy battery/motor.
Nice relaxed informal video, enjoyed it. But is the real message here that the bike is so gopping, you need to go to an uninhabited Scottish island if you want to ride one?
I thought that metal box was gonna explode when he dropped onto it from the outbuilding roof.
But most importantly, Rampage 2020... was he just a little bit serious?

The video concept is F**! Ebikes are F**!

Fat? Well, it DOES look quite heavy.

No.
I could see Fabio Wibmer having a go, though.
Expect lots more ebike adverts - the companies making them are running scared given that their target market (fat diabetics, smokers and the elderly) are about to be culled in large numbers...
Danny just having fun on his e-bike again
I rode one again yesterday, as did my boy too. We both have them, without any prompting from me, he pointed out that it handled horribly and "was nice on the road section" only.
I'm still firmly in the "no" camp
Yeah thats a great video with danny & ali. Shows the perfect use for ebikes, maximising dh runs by getting to the top super quick for another run.
Appeals to me if you wanted a big day out in the Alps or Peaks or something...it would extend your range. But for your local couple of hour loop I'd stick with a manual bike. Was out yesterday and there were loads of eMTBer out. Most were either old (fair enough) or fat (feir enough gain...at least they're getting out but not necessarily losing weight). The only chap who looked fit and handy was using it to stuff in more riding in his limited time...looping the downhills several times is bound to improve your skills even if on an insanely heavy bike...Just imagine how light and nimble your non-bike will feel after riding an bike. I guess in an ideal world you'd have both and pick and choose your weapon.
I bought an Ebike 2 years ago which I do ride but this year I decided to buy another real bike. It was a frame so now I can fill my empty days with building it up. The problem is I can't pop out to buy anything I have forgotten, have to order even cables on line.
nice on the road section
The road sections are where my Ebike is at its worst.
I solve this problem by doing laps of steep tech trails instead of riding it on the road.
Everything Ali is saying in that video about getting used of the weight quickly and the extra grip it bring was my conclusion the first time I tried one too.
Great video BTW.
Danny seems pretty fast for a trials rider. 😛
The road sections are where my Ebike is at its worst.
My boy is 11, so 16mph is pretty hard on him with little legs. So on the hilly road bits where he can use the power it was useful
To young to be riding an Ebike on a public road then. 😉
