Still confused between post mount and IS mount. Which is which, and is the trend towards post or IS?

The trend on forks is towards post mount. As far as I am aware rears are always IS mount.

IS bolts run in the same plane as the axles & post mount @ 90 degrees to the axles, post mounts don't need shimming but are slightly heavier.

95% of bikes have an IS mount on the rear. Most new forks have post mount.
Most brakes now are post mount- adapters for the rear are readily available.
