[Closed] DT Swiss three-pawl freehub - how do I get the inner bearing out?

Inner bearing has seized. It is a pawl freehub (ratchet no problem, I have the tool, sod's law).

There is a circlip which my pliers can't get out, but even if I get that out I can't see how you drift the bearing out because surely it will hit the narrow bit in the body that holds the outer bearing in place?

So is there a tool that grips where the pawls sit and unscrews that end of the hub to let the inner bearing out?

Or do I chuck it in the bin in a hissy fit and buy a whole new freehub?

Help!

The DT Swiss technical manual is definitely not my friend, as it tells you to use the ratchet tool for ratchet hubs on a pawl hub - duh!

But I will try TF tuned if nobody here can shed any light. I didn't know about them - thanks for that.

The freewheel does not seem to be a serviceable part.

A schematic on DT's website[1] shows a threaded steel part inside the freehub. Maybe removing the grub screw[2] on the pawl-side will allow you to unthread it? Probably threadlocked as well, so some heat might help.

l.e. Nevermind, that's not a grub screw[3], it's just a piece of piping that stops the spring from rotating.

If this is the freehub I think it is then it's not supposed to be user serviceable. That said, I have replaced the bearings on one recently.

Process was to push slightly to one side the spacer sleeve that sits between the outer and inner bearing.
Pull out the outer bearing using a specialist expanding collet type bearing puller.
Remove the circlip using a fine nosed interior circlip pliers (this was the bit that took the most time).
Pull out the inner bearing (towards the outside) the using the bearing puller. With a suitable collet you can just get a bit of purchase on the edge of the outer edge of the inner face of the inner bearing (if that makes sense) where it buts up against the freehub shell.
Without a suitable puller, you can drift out the outer bearing, but no idea how you'd get out the inner bearing.

Thanks for that, otsdr and velo. Yes velo, that is exactly what I'm trying to achieve, only the circlip is a pig, I can squeeze it but I just can't get it out.

Anyway, TF tuned have confirmed it's not intended to be serviceable and will replace it under warranty, so I think one more go and then I give up.

Bit shit having to replace the whole thing for the sake of a poxy bearing. And not having the bike for the weekend!!!

Btw ignore my comment about the tech manual. I was wrong, that's for the hub.

Circlip is a pig to get out. Tried with "proper" circlip pliers and failed.
Resorted to a set like this http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/product_detail.php?products_id=780027 and whilst access/clearance is a pain, they did the job.

Definitely not a job worth doing if the freehub is under warranty, but a very nice money saver on older freehubs.
