[Closed] DT Swiss Remote Lock out XMM 120 Fork Pipe

Hi I have one of these and it failed almost immediately. It took me ages to get a replacement back. The lever failed and despite being mechanically minded I cannot see why/how. In addition I note from the replacement that it mentions a ‘pipe’ being a rigid bit of curved pipe through which the cable runs as it enters the crown of the fork. Very much like on V brakes. I never had this on the first one which was fitted but note that it is shown in the instructions and referred to in them. Can I ask (PS the shop that I purchased it from is giving me advice that I do not trust I am sad to say):
1. Has anyone any experience of these failing; and

2. Does anyone know if the pipe is necessary. Can it be used without? I just want to fit and use the thing.
