Do I need to move my F Mech down when I remove the outer ring? It looks rather out of place sticking up high and in the granny ring the chain can rub on the bottom of the mech (when suspension is uncompressed).
Or is it a case of, 'if it aint broke...'
If the seattube will allow you to reposition the front mech, and the chainstay won't touch it when bottomed out, then it should work better yes
To set it up use the bash as the outer ring, so yeah you may have to move it down.
I moved mine down when I fitted a bash. Depends if you're planning on putting the big ring back on any time soon.
And you probably have already, but don't forget to set the limit screw so you can't shift into the non-existent big ring.
I moved mine down, it didn't work, I moved it back up. Do set the outer limit screw tho.
Cheers all, I fitted a bash for the alps this year and have found that I would like to keep it, seeing as I hardly ever use the big ring in the uk.
No need to move it down but it can make setup easier and reduce chain noise so why not.
The SLX double mech is nice btw, cheaply made but lighter than an XT triple and dead, dead easy to set up. Seems to work a little better than a triple-used-as-double but tbh that could just be the random factor that creeps in whenever I fit a mech.
