Ive fitted a new 3 x 10 SLX chainset to the Orange 5 and removed the big ring and replaced it with a straitline bash guard, ive never fitted one before, it was tight but its finally on straight.

However, the chain rubs ever so slightly,is this always the case or should it have more room ?

Hi there - I run the same combo EXCEPT 9 speed and no issues.

BUT there are a few things you coukld check or do -

1. What size chain ring ?
2. What size bash guard - ie is it the same as the chain ring eg 32T or have you put a 36T one on ?
3. Is the bashguard on the right way round ?
4. You could always space the bash guard out a little with some suitable washers.

Sounds like there is some sort of problem because you wrote that it was a tight fit, that is rather unusual.

I run a nine spd slx with the same bash, replaced the outer with a 32/34 no rubbing and my mate runs xt 10spd, again replaced outer with 32/34 bash and he has no rubbing, the chain rubs on the front mech if i cross gear too much ie granny and smaller rear cogs, maybe its the bash as mine was a doddle to fit and no tightness at all

Thanks,

Im running 32 outer and the bash is a 36, its on the right way round, it was a bugger to fit too but its on straight. Only in the lowest gear at the back does it rub but it is ever so slightly, its fine in the rest.

I took the picture to show how close it is, should the chain be alot further away ?

Ah.. so I guess I should have gone for the 32-34t Straitline. I thought it was ok to go bigger bash, I guessed the other way around i.e. bigger ring than bash is the no no

Yeh, was thinkin about that. Been researching some that take a double and the Blackspire seems to be the best so far.
