As I'm of an age that allows me to be grumpy about anything, I thought I'd mention my latest annoyance.
People that leave their lights on full beam whilst riding towards you on singletrack.
As in tonights senario. I was just coming to the end of a section of track when two riders turned onto the trail. They left their helmet and bar lights on full. They must have seen me shielding my eyes? They completely burnt out the trail making me stop. I just had a Joystick running at medium, and I tilted that down.
I put my hand over the bar light to cut off the top half of the beam and deliberately look away with the helmet light
yeh,
most riders do the same for oncoming cars - though they tend not to stop, just squint and carry on (see my prior ramblings about commuting lights)
I also put my hand over the bar light. But if I also did what TJ did I would most certainly fall off
TJ - I've a feeling quite a lot directs up from the bottom of the reflector too (def does on halogen GU11 bulbs)
difficult to dip an HID, other than by using TJ's method, which i do on the lanes. if it was the last few feet of trail i would imagine the polite thing to have done would have been to stop.
Yes indeed thank you Del, I hope the two ragamuffins are reading this.
home brew leds. I can cut the top half of the beam off with my hand. Teh helmet light is a fairly tight spot so just making sure I look at the trail infront of my rather than at them should do the trick
