Hi Chaps,

I just bought some Continental Gatorskin 28c tyres, they come up at around 25mm on my rims. I've got another different set of wheels with 25c Continental GP4000s and they come up bigger than the Gatorskins.

I've yet to try switching them around, but would the rim width have that amount of affect on the tyre width / contact patch?

Yes. Schwalbe (and others) produce tables of what size tyres fit what size rims.

I can't go below 28mm on my rims.

Cheers for the reply, so that's ability to fit a specific size tyre - but does that actual rim width affect what size the tyre will come up to?

I think I'm going to have to have a play tonight and switch tyres over...

Yes it does. That's why I run flow rims on the mountain bike. Makes tyres wider and the profile less round to reduce roll in corners at low pressures.
